    Why?

I'd rather have DSL come in over ethernet, then I can uplink it to a hub/switch and share it much easier.

What benefit is there to bringing it in over USB or FireWire?

How many firewall programs know about filtering over USB/FireWire?

Maybe some one can enlighten us to the benefits, especially since ELNK/MSPG doesn't charge for the DSL hardware anyway, they loan it, and from the looks of it, it's kind of chincy so it doesn't seem super expensive to begin with.

    bad USB ADSL experience

I'm using an Alcatel usb adsl modem (no choice !). This is really a "pain in the a**". Why ? :
    - it's draining so much power out of my usb hub that i can't plug all my other usb devices at the same time.
    - it's very hard to share your internet connection. The only reliable software i found is IPNetrouter. Usb adsl and airport friendly.
    - I'd rather have an ethernet modem but ISP (BTopenworld) won't let me upgrade unless I go for the buisness package, 5 times more expensive !
Now it works fine for sharing my connection unless i have to reboot my machine.
