Vue d'Esprit 4 for Mac OS X
updated 11:35 am EDT, Mon May 14, 2001
e-on software has announced that it will be releasing its 3D scenery and rendering animation software, Vue d'Esprit 4, for Mac OS X in Q4 2001. The new version for Mac OS X will include hundreds of new features over the previous Windows only Vue d'Esprit 3.1. Vue 4 will be available in English, French, German and Japanese language versions at an estimated street price of $200.
New features in Vue 4 include an entirely new volumetric atmosphere system that closely captures the complex interactions of air and light, such as volumetric clouds, materials and lights; lens flares, stellar and atmospheric objects, planets (moons and other planets of the solar system), stars, rainbows and ice rings; a new Terrain Editor with real-time 3D preview, random rock generator,
and symmetrical terrains; SolidGrowth 2, an advance on e-on software's realistic tree and plant creation and rendering technology that creates unique natural objects with a click, all within an extremely small memory footprint; and direct import of static Curious Lab's Poser Scenes for inclusion of complex
animal and human models.

Cool!
OS X just keeps getting better and better as a 3D platform. This competitor to Bryce will make things interesting on the low end of the 3D market. With Lightwave 6.5, Cinema 4D and Maya all available (or soon to be) for Mac OS X, all us Mac users need now are professional high end 3D OpenGL graphics cards. It's an abomination that NO ONE has released a 64MB graphics card with high end features for the Mac.
