Be sure to check out DiskOnKey - they run on Mac, Windows, and Linux - with no drivers needing to be installed. :) You can currently buy them from Dell...
Seeing as the majority were little more than vulgar slander, I don't blame MacNN for removing them. Quite frankly, I was disappointed to see so many Mac fans stoop to such pathetically low levels.
Freedom of Speech also only applies to the government, bucko. ;)
Anyway, back to the Q drive... a wee bit pricey for my needs. I wish Sony would make a Memory Stick reader that small so I could have similar functionality without paying the high prices for the media.
Can't find this "DiskOnKey" product on the Dell site at all. I'm about to purchase one of Q's USB hard drives any second.
Anyone got any clues to where I can find this "DiskOnKey"? Is it better cheaper? Aside from driverless?
Sorry - the URL for DiskOnKey is: http://www.diskonkey.com
You can find them on the Dell website with the following part numbers:
8MB DiskOnKey: Dell part # 305782, Manufacture part # 821U0080003A
16MB DiskOnKey: Dell part # 305783, Manufacture part # 821U0160003A
32MB DiskOnKey: Dell part # 305784, Manufacture part # 821U0320003A
Hope that helps!
Works like a charm. There are rumored to be other larger sizes coming out soon (a LOT larger) - but I dont really see myself using it for more than 32MB at a time, for transport of bookmarks, some MP3s, etc...
you cannot argue the way-cool factor.
superficial? sure, but i still want to carry 64 mb of disk space on my keychain. ;-)
O.K. I found the DiskOnKey specs. But it does need drivers for Win 98 and more improtantly for the Mac. "Mac OS 8.6 can support the DiskOnKey by downloading and installing the driver/patch from www.apple.com."
I'm getting a USB hard drive, the DiskOnKey only goes to 32 mb and the Q product stores 64mb
Yeah, it was _mostly_ a bunch of bilious spew, but did it all have to go? Besides, it was funny in a stupid sort of way.
The Mac driver needed for Diskonkey is a standard Apple USB driver that you would need if you were using any USB storage device with OS 8.6
I don't see this as a big deal. It's standard on OS9 and later. Most USB-equipped Macs in my environs are running OS9.
Looks like a good product.
