Insider Software today announced FontAgent 8.2, a free update to its $70 font management and repair utility that enhances font validation for both bitmapped and PostScript fonts, fixes bugs, and improves its compatibility with Mac OS 9.

I have no end of problems both using FontAgent (including the flaky registration proceedure) and with the results it provides -- it seems to do more harm than good IMHO. Hopefully 8.2 fixes it, but I have my doubts.
In contrast I'm a fan of the company's UpdateAgent, which has always worked a promised. :-)
This software has been nothing bu trouble for me. Mainly due to the piss poor copy protection scheme. Every time I clean install or upgrade my system, I have to contact support for a new registration code.

This update (FontAgent 8.2) has bugs:
The installer produces a file called Registering.pdf which is reported as a corrupt .sit file and furthermore when you choose the File menu and then Register... to register you get an error saying
"Please run the FontAgent Installer to install FontAgent correctly" . This is odd because there isn't an option in the Installer for incorrectly installing the software. Therefore the intaller must not be installing it correctly!
I have not been able to register with the FontAgent 8.1 Access code.
