Swapping disks with Riven was somewhat annoying.

I would assume the same with Exile. Might there be a DVD version out?

I contacted Presto about a DVD version of Myst III. They told me that the current version is CD only, however, a DVD version will be available sometime in September.

I am a big Myst fan so I do not plan on waiting for the DVD, nor will I buy the DVD version once I have the bought the CD version. I think it would have been more intelligent to release both at the same time, or release the DVD version as a "collector's edition".

DVD

I was hoping to see a DVD version available, even if I had to pay extra. CD swapping was probably the only downside of Myst 2, and all of my Macs now have DVD drives! Releasing it in September makes little sense, since I'll be done with the CDs by then (there's no way I can wait :). Hopefully it will have some serious enhancement to make it worthwhile.

Did the Baldur's Gate DVD ever come out?

Collector's Edition

WOW - -this looks sweet! Besides the normal 4 CD's for the game, you get an audio CD soundtrack and a bonus 'behind the scenes' CD-ROM. Hopefully they'll include all of this on the DVD edition!

Video of real game play!!

I have posted a link below with to a realmedia video capture, of real game play. The 360 sphere view looks fantastic. You can look anywhere, at anytime, with extremely high resolution graphics. So for yourself. Keep in mind, that there maybe be some game spoilers in the video. I can tell you that I cannot wait for this game. I have been waiting 4 years.

They have included a "full-install" option, which allows you to install all 4CD's onto your hard drive, so that there is no CD swapping. With the price and size of hard drives these days, this option should keep anyone from waiting for the DVD version. I am not sure of this, but moving between each frame might be quicker under the full install. I don't know.

Avoid CD Swaps

I avoid CD swapping for multiple CD programs by using a disk mounter program (I forget the name of it off hand and I am at work on the windoze)a utility that makes a copy of an entire disk. Its a great little program that has 1001 uses and provides work arounds inserting CD's. Simply make the CD images, mount them when you play Riven (or Exile or whatever) and never have to worry about swapping. Of course you will need some hard drive space, but that is what those gigabyte drives are for.

Exile sounds great.

Avoid CD Swaps 2

Finally at home with a real computer. The Apple program is called Disk Copy and can be found on the system disk. The program is really useful for multi disk CD programs like some encyclopedias and games such as Riven. If the full install does indeed put all four CD's on the disk the point becomes moot, but the program is useful for Riven and others.

Yeah, but

that trick doesn't work for Riven!

I and many others tried. You have to copy the 'data' files alone to your Data fold in the Riven folder.

Riven DVD

when i purchased my iMac DV SE at CompUSA, i wanted to buy Riven to play as well. i asked the salesperson if there happened to be a DVD version of the game and he helped me find it on the shelves. glad i did--the DVD means no CD swapping and it has a full "making of Riven" video in both DV and QuickTime format that is fun to watch. i'll wait for the MystIII DVD...worth it to me!!!

Burbank (CA) Comp USA had a whole rack of them. Got it home, and daughter immediately confiscated it and has installed on her iBook and immediately went for the headphones...

It's a hybrid CD...

I purchased a copy last night from Comp USA in Gaithersburg, MD. It's a hybrid CD. When you install it it gives you the option of putting the entire 4 CD's on your HD...no swapping. But...I still asks for CD#1 to be inserted everytime I start the game. I made a disk image with apples 'disk copy' and now everything is great!

It's an incredible game...beautiful graphics...incredible sound...truly wonderful.

As a side note: I have Myst, and Riven DVD. My computer is a G4 Cube.

why dvd?

why not just load all the disks onto your hard drive? 4 cds is 3 gigs. i bet the playing experience would be even better than if it were on a single dvd, given shorter access times.

No update for OS X

Disregard my e-mail support request. I saw the answer today on the latest FAQ. However, it really sucks that this patch is on hold, however Mr. Dan Irish assured all OS X users that it would be ready when the product shipped, not a month after.

Q. I have Macintosh with OS10. The game won't run. Why?

A. We are currently working with Apple to insure that the updated, OS10 native application includes all the fixes and optimizations necessary. This should be completed by the end of May. Try running the game in "Emulator Mode" under OS10.
