Second Apple Store headed for Chicago

Apple is reportedly looking to open a second retail store in Chicago, according to a news brief in Chicago Business. "Apple Computer Inc. is planning to open its second Chicago-area retail outlet, in a 7,100-square-foot store at Woodfield Shopping Center in Schaumburg." Last month we noted that Apple had signed a lease for a retail store in downtown Chicago. Also, a thread in our forums is mapping and tracking the rumored and "confirmed" locations of Apple Retail Store locations.

    enough already

This is getting silly. When apple actually opens a store let us know. Giving us rumors every other day about a possible spot is getting really old.

We're talking a store here. yippee.

    good location...

Schaumburg, Il is a booming suburban town with a lot of high-tech corporations...right near the mall. And Woodfield is one of the largest malls in the country. It's jammed packed every day.

    re: anybody know

This is awesome news for me! I'm moving to Schaumburg in July and can't wait to have my own Apple Store nearby! Woodfield is apparently the 2nd largest mall in the US and definitely has the higher profile image that Apple seems to be looking for.

Interesting idea. According to their website, here are the ikea locations:

    Baltimore, MD
    Burbank, CA
    Carson, CA
    Chicago (Schaumburg, IL)
    City of Industry, CA
    East Bay (Emeryville, CA)
    Elizabeth, NJ
    Houston, TX
    Long Island (Hicksville, NY)
    Philadelphia (Plymouth Meeting, PA)
    Pittsburgh, PA
    San Diego, CA
    Seattle, WA
    Tustin, CA
    Washington (Woodbridge, VA)

    Ikea

The Ikea in Schaumburg (don't know why you asked, but what the hey) is a half-mile north of Woodfield Mall, in an industrial park. Woodfield mall is located at a major highway exchange, where I-90 (from Chicago to Rockford and beyond) and I-53 (which goes from here down through the west suburbs) meet.

Woodfield is chock full of various higher-priced stores that get a huge amount of traffic they ordinarily wouldn't have (such as the Discovery Channel and Colorado Pen Company). As for anchor stores, they are Marshall Fields, Nordstroms, JC Penney, Lord and Taylor and Sears. A ridiculously good location - I worked there back in my retail days, and you would not believe the amount of foot traffic. Holiday season is packed beyond belief. Interestingly, there is a Brooks Brother store there, as well as a block or two north of the rumoured location on Michigan Avenue in Chicago.

I go to Woodfield all the time for Gameworks. Now I will be going twice as often. I can't wait!
