Adaptec recently released Mac OS X drivers for a number of its SCSI cards, including the PowerDomain 29160, 29160N, 39160, and 2930U as well as the SCSI Card 2906. An OS X driver will be coming soon for the PowerDomain SlimSCSI 1480. Other products, however, will not be supported under Mac OS X.

The unsupported models include the PowerDomain 2940UW, 2940U2W, 3940UW, 3944UWD, and 2940W. Adaptec is working out the details of a rebate program for owners of these models.

    well... they work

However, they have been out since April 23. Most programs still don't seem to recognize them yet (Outside of the finder)
    Maybe it's just my setup.

    not just you...

the only effect of installing the drivers on my g4/733 was that sleep no longer works ;-(. can't load anything on any of my scsi drives (hard drive, cd-r, tape, or syquest)...

    sigh...

    Umm

"Adaptec recently released Mac OS X drivers for a number of its SCSI cards"

I think the key missing word here is BETA.. all they have released is beta drivers at this point.

.. still waiting for the final drivers ..

    Yeah, Wake Up Editors!!

They did not release OSX Drivers, they release OS X BETA drivers... which, if you happen to have read the readme, are a joke in terms of the apparent ease of loss of data from their last release.

I was surprised that adaptec release beta drivers with such stiff stipulations about known problems that could cause hard drive wide data loss.

    re: not just you

Are there any drivers available for the syquest or cd-r? If not then blame someone else. If the hard drive is formatted with anything besides Apples formatting utility you are out of luck. For the tape drive try Retrospect new fc software!!

The alarm is going off. Read the ReadMe, it only under a very specific situation that there may be data loss. And anyone that has installed Mac OS 9.1 should not see it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    They don't work

Installed the drivers on the 23rd, with an Adaptec 29160. No luck. I have 1 SCSI 160 36GB HD, with termination, and it doesn't mount at all. Oh well, I guess that's why they are beta drivers.

    worse than before

I installed the beta driver. Now, unless both SCSI devices are actually before booting up, the system stalls at the spinning ball (in OS X). Also, sleep is still not enabled. Given that I rarely use my scanner and ZIP drive, I've pulled the card out and now, no problems. Not a good solution.

    what does it do, exactly?

I've been using an Adaptec 2930 card with X since public beta, with no driver (I actually had both public beta and final installed on and booting from a SCSI drive plugged into the card.)

I've had no problems. With the data loss warning included with the drivers, I'm not going to install them.
