Citing adverse market conditions, Imagine Media has shut down its affiliate networks, including the MacAddict Network. While affiliate sites will no longer receive compensation for ads, it's unclear whether the network will be disbanded entirely.

    MadAddict?

    "... including the MadAddict Network."

With "MadAddict" gone, what will happen to MacAddict? Maybe they have a proofreader looking for a job. ;^)

    It Can't be Helped

It's the dot-bomb that had to happen, especially when banner ads do nada for sales and you have to look things over and say "How much am I paying a month for this?". And it's too bad, really, the MacAddict Network had some awesome sites to it.

So, what's going to make web sites profitable again?

    You misunderstand...

    Hi Gang,

As a former member of the network, I can tell ya you've misunderstood. ;)

The MacAddict Network was a group of 17 sites for which MacAddict sold ads. It has nothing to do with the magazine, or even the MacAddict web site.

The desolving of the network only means that ImagineMedia (the company that owns MacAddict Mag/site) will no loger be selling banners ads for the sites that were in the network.

The mag is still there, the MacAddict site is still there, and all the individual affiliate sites are still there. It just means we will have to work a little harder to sell some banner slots.

Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

    Imagine is screwed

If they don't get their act together soon, they're probably going to axe the entire computing division (or what's left of it anyway)... that would mean MaxPC and MacAddict might be next on the chopping block if Imagine had layoff even MORE people.

    profitable again?

Uhh…they never were profitable for the most part. The standard dot-com business model was this:
    1. think up a stupid name
    2. find some stupid investors
    3. use a lot of stupid buzzwords
    4. buy stupid advertising in traditional media
    5. stupidly keep repeating “it's the new economy. the old rules don't apply”
    6. go under when investor capital is spent

    Watch your mouth

Or fingers. MacNN is a fine site. They provide up to the minute info, and I think that a smart reader would realize that there's some variability in the quality of the info that is provided. Take it easy, big guy.
