Reader: Toast 5.01 fixes Disc Burner issues
updated 12:05 pm EDT, Sat April 21, 2001
Joe Bossalini passed along some observations about the recently released Toast 5.01 update:
"I installed the Toast 5.0.1 update yesterday on my G4 450/DP with and Adaptec 2930 SCSI card and external Plextor SCSI drive. While the drive previously worked flawlessly with Toast and iTunes, it never worked with Disc Burner (which Apple confirmed as correct behavior). Well, it looks like the Toast 5.0.1 CD Reader extension worked some magic, because after the update I happened to pop a blank CD in the burner and the Finder asked me how I wanted to format it! I was able to make both an ISO and HFS+ disc with Disc Burner without any problems. Hats off to Roxio for fixing an Apple problem!!"

Annoying Apple slam
Apple has been working cooperatively with Roxio to fix this problem. They both deserve credit.
I don't know why a conflict between Disc Burner and Toast is presumed to be Apple's fault anyway. Driver conflicts are not uncommon in the computer industry and often neither developer has really done anything wrong.
