Wacom has announced that it plans to add Mac OS X support for its line of graphics tablets some time in June. Wacom recommends its users hold off on upgrading to Mac OS X until the update is released, as the devices do not function properly under OS X.

The Wacom tablet driver for OS X will support the following Wacom tablets:

  • USB versions of the Intuos product line (model numbers GD-0405-U, GD-0608-U, GD-0912-U, GD-1212-U and GD-1218-U)
  • USB version of the Graphire tablets (model number ET-0405-U)
  • USB versions of the PenPartner tablets (model number CT-0405-U)
  • USB versions of the PL product line (model numbers PL-500-U and PL-400 with PLB-02 Converter Box).

    No ADB support?

Why isn't Wacon going to support ADB tablets? My department has spent thousands on ADB tablets! And now, no support? I'm outraged! I'm never going to buy another Wacon product again! I'm going to sell all my Macs and buy PCs instead!

    ADB support

Well, it would be nice. I have an old ( 5 years) Wacom tablet connected to my blue & white G3. Do any ADB devices work at all under OS X ?

Two things I could take for now: being able to use the table under Classic, or just generic pointer support under OS X.

Makes perfect sense. THis way can spent even thousands more on on the same hardware again, plus you have to buy PC's.

    ADB support in OS X

Apple is only supporting basic keyboard and mouse functions for ADB in MacOS X. So I assume that means Wacom doesn't have the option of making their ADB devices work in OS X even if they wanted to.

    Outrage at Wacom

I understand that Wacom has issued the following statement...

    "We _regret_, ...."

"There isn't anything Wacom should apologise for!"

    A little surprised...

I'm a little surprised that Wacom is taking so long to get the drivers ready. Were they not given developer versions of OSX so they would be ready? I guess you get this kind of complacency when you have a monopoly......

    The real joke

... is in Wacom's website design. A complete Aqua rip-off, from the tabs on top to the buttons in the body.

You'd think they'd be more compelled to support the operating system they're so visually endebted to.
