Aspyr Media has announced preliminary system requirements for the Mac version of American McGee's Alice, a third-person 3D action-adventure game originally developed by Rogue Entertainment and Electronic Arts. The game currently requires a 400 MHz PowerPC G3 or better (500 MHz G3 recommended), 64 MB RAM (128 MB recommended), and Mac OS 8.6 or higher. The game will ship as a Carbonized application for native support under Mac OS X.

    Oh crud

500 Mhz? Now only those with $1500 or more in a Mac can access this game. Aspyr used to realize how to make good software acceleration like in John Madden 2000. That worked great on my Powerbook G3/233. OK, so my next machine will definitely be a Powerbook G4/500 or whatever the latest is February 2002 when my Applecare runs out.

    time goes on

everyone needs to realize that the computer market is very fast paced. the g3/233 is an OLD machine. madden 2000 came out what, 2 years ago? of course its system requirements are gonna be lower than a game of today! if you are serious about gaming get a Power Mac G4, its just that simple.

    Whatever

I have an iBook SE 466 with 320 ram. I don't think running this game is going to be a problem at all. And anyone who is using a two year old mac to play games is out of their mind if they think that any of the new stuff is going to run with any balls on their systems.

    Reality Check

Well, I knew it was inevitable; my 2 year old B&W G3 350mhz can no longer run the latest games. Sigh...
Could be worse though since I rarely play anything more processor taxing than solitare!

    Too High

Yep, that's too high a CPU standard. They'll soon complain about not selling enough copies since a large majority of Mac users won't have machines fast enough.

    hmm

but even new games on my PC play slow and crappy on a Pentium III/533...

Don't forget, that also said *G3* and not *G4*...

    How 'bout G4?

So, it says 400MHz G3, but what about the G4? They're not much faster except fot operations that take advantage of Velocity. I have a 400MHz G4 with radeon and I don't really fancy running a game with the minimum requirements. Anyone with any thoughts?
