The State Journal is currently showcasing an article which covers Apple's increased presence in law firms around the country. According to a survey by the American Bar Association, the number of law firms using Macs increased by over 250 percent between 1998 and 2001. The increase is credited primarily to the success of Apple's iMac, which is now used on the desks of many lawyers.

    Hopeful Law Student

I am a 2nd Year Law Student at Northwestern University, and a die-hard mac user. I can only hope that the Firm I work for will see the light and let me use a mac. However, I am working for a large firm this summer and will continue to do so after graduation and the bar, and from what I know, Macs are totally missing from the big prestigious firms which place a high reliance on there IT facilities and staff, which tend to focus exclusively on Microsoft systems.

    Still hoping though.

    ..that figures

Since Apple loves to sue so much, it only stands to reason that lawyers would enjoy using their machines.

    Nice to see

There are tons of lawyer offices in the area I'm in.. and I walk by a lot of them and always see lawyers typing away on their iMac.. G4 towers.. beige boxes.. it's nice. :)

I believe we can all thank the success of the sitcom "Ally Mcbeal" to the sudden increase of macs in law firms. Go Ally!!!!!!!

    Some big firms use Macs

from what I know, Macs are totally missing from
    the big prestigious firms

Generally true, but they are not "totally" missing. For example, I work for Adams and Reese, one of the large law firms in the Gulf South region (New Orleans, Houston, Baton Rouge, Jackson, Mobile, D.C., almost 200 attorneys total) and most of our attorneys use Macs, although some do use PCs.

    iMacs in Law Offices

Good to see the Macs in use, but the small screen iMac and double-spaced 8.5x14 inch legal documents makes for excessive scrolling and is a fairly large productivity hit.

No, I think what the article meant to get across was the increased presence of lawyers at Apple. ;-)
