Bachmann Software & Services has introduced a portable InfraReady Adapter, a device which adds infrared transfer capability to any printer for beaming documents directly from a Palm OS-based handheld computer. The $56, battery-powered device connects to the parallel port of the printer, and works in conjunction with Bachmann's PrintBoy software for transferring the material to the printer.

    *sigh* again with it...

This nifty spiffy device plugs into a *parallel* printer.

Strange, but none of my Macs are attached to parallel printers...

...but, if you have a printer with parallel in addition to USB (or serial), you can connect the IR port to your printer while leaving it connected to the Mac. If I were to buy something like this, I'd be quite happy that I didn't need to reach around to the back of the printer to change connections.

I know Epson's inkjets have multiple ports. I know HP inkjets had them for a while, don't know if they still do. Don't know a thing about Canons or laser printers.

    My Newton does it better

Nice to read from their FAQ, that most Palm apps don't have any printer support, much less support for thier device/software.

Every app on my Newton supports printing, via iRDA, localtalk, and Ethertalk.

    Thanks Steve......

    newton forever!

I can plug my newt2k into a stray ethernet jack here at work and see all the network printers, not to mention that I can walk over to one of several printers and plug my newt right into it via localtalk.

Several years dead, and still ahead of it's time...

    What about beaming for PB

Anybody have an idea how to do this with a powerbook? I have an Epson 600 hooked into a G3/233 desktop. Would be nice to be able to beam instead of moving the printer cable between the machines if I wanted to print from the book instead of the desktop machine.
