Producer comments on Myst III's Europe delay

Myst III's release will be delayed in Europe by 4 months after its anticipated May 7th release in the U.S. because game publisher Ubi Soft is pushing for localization in several languages (in addition to German, French, Dutch), according to a forum posting from the producer.

    US version in the UK?

    go on, be nice, give us the US version. It doesn't matter if the odd word is the US spelling, it's still better than waiting!

    US/UK?

    Why am I not surprised at this? The forum on the developer's site had them saying that they didn't want to show preference for any language - I think he means, "preference for any language except the USA". The actors all speak American in the game anyway....Why not just ship English speaking nations the US stuff? Certainly wouldn't bother me.

    4 Months?

    Thats' nearly as bad as Apple! Do thay want to encorage piracy! I'll probbaly import a copy from the States.

    What matters...

    is availability. The UK Mac market suffers because developers think up stupid ideas like this and we have to wait 6 months to get it. It's the same version usually anyway.

    Need I mention the infamous Virtual Game Station saga - where no-one could get a copy 'cos it was being 'localised', and the final shipping version was US english.

    Get your finger out. Even if you want to localise the language, it shouldn't take more than two days to translate into all the desired languages, and a week (maximum) to recode and compile. This is not astrophysics, simply story-telling.

    Hope this helps. If I lives outside the US, there is no way I could wait for the localized version. I would just buy or import the US version.

    Amazon UK is waiting for the localized versions, so there's no use in ordering there if you want the U.S. version in May. The site sent out a notice this week to all who had pre-ordered warning them of the 4-month delay for European versions.
