    powerbook G3 - G4

Alas, I wait for a G4 upgrade, something that I could guarantee that just about EVERYBODY who owns a powerbook, esp a nice new pismo, would buy.

    600 mhz and higher?

Now that 600 Mhz G3s are readily available from Apple (high-end iMac), when are we goingto see aftermarket upgrades with these higher-speed parts?

    I'd love to double the speed of my B&W G3 350 with a $500, 700Mhz ZIF upgrade.

    What About The iMac?!?!

What is really needed is for a slight price cut of $25-50 off the iMac upgrades, for most users they've ended up dumping their iMac for another because costs were unrealistic for the average consumer.

Can't wait until MacWorld NY... I may either buy a upgrade or jump to a DP G4 Tower :-)

    No G4 upgrades

The G4 produces too much heat. The PowerBook G4 can handle it because of the heat sink/pipe; there is no room for such a device in the PowerBook G3.

This is coming from an engineer for an upgrade company.

I have a revA that I would love to keep using, but I can buy ANOTHER revA for the price they are asking for the upgrade.....sheesh.

    Still a Tragic Rip-Off

I've got a 512mb, LVD equipped Blue and White G3/400 and RESENT the OBSCENE prices for G4 upgrades and ZIF upgrades in general...$500 (from Sonnet, the price leader amongst the upgrade charlatans) for another 100mhz (15% better real-world performance) and AltiVec? What a sad joke! If it was a 733mhz or faster 7450 then maybe, but I have a feeling that if and when 7450-based upgrades appear they will be for $1200+...Another poster had a good point, where are IBM 750 CX series upgrades? Are these chips too inexpensive and fast for these rip-off artists to want to use? Last time I checked IBM was talking about 700mhz+ 750s in an inexpensive, cool-running package...I have been dreaming of an upgrade vendor (maybe a new one) to offer a cheap and cheerful 700mhz "Blue Thunder" (my silly name) 750 CXE ZIF upgrade for us G3 suckers...Apparently the CX series can scale to 1ghz or above on IBMs CMOS9 process (they should do this just to underline to Steve what useless b******* Moto are...remember that the 1ghz+Athlon uses a Moto process...I think they are more interested in mobile phones than Apple)...Rarely have I seen an upgrade, ever, that has been as good an economic investment as saving up for a new box (or putting the money down towards it)...I have a feeling I'll shell out for a new dual box in a year or so...unless upgrade makers stop pricing their "upgrades" at 33% to 75% (in the case of that amusing beige dual upgrade) of a NEW MACHINE...Do the math and wonder what on earth these companies are playing at...

    Compatible with OS X

I know Apple is saying upgrade cards are not supported with OS X but what is the real scoop? I am considering getting one of these upgrade cards for my beige G3 however I am concerned about the compatibility issue with OS X. Any new news on this issue?
