    Plextor

Too bad yet another reseller has abandoned Plextor for cheaper mechanisms. Fantom was one of the first to stick a Plex unit in a FireWire box. At least they tell you ahead of time, unlike someone.. *cough* QPS..

    Compatibility

How is one to know if this drive - or others that are emerging - are compatible with Disc Burner?

    Bus Powered?

Is this drive Bus powered, or does it require a seperate power brick? As far as I can tell, the only bus powered firewire cdrw on the market is VSTs, and its kinda slow.

    RE: Bus Powered?

I hope I understand your question. Forgive me if I don't. This drive powered separately, not from the firewire source.

My company owns one of these. When anyone moves it from machine to machine to use, the problem we have is you have to restart the computer when it's attached hot in order for Toast to recognize it.

    Teac better than Plextor

To the guy who says "Teac is far better than Plextor. I have both....and I love Teac"

based on what criteria? Your comments aren't helpful, and make you sound like a Teac employee. It's generally considered fact that Plextor is the most reliable CD-RW mechanism to look for, and that Teac is a cheap imitator. So if you like Teac so much more, and have a Plextor to compare, please explain WHY.

    teac VS plextor

NP. Plextor is usualy a very slow reader, specialy when you insert a new CD....and it takes years for Plextor to finaly figure out, that CD is inserted. Teac, on the other hand, works just fine. Another thing. CDs burned on any Plextor have problems with various CD roms, specialy with the old ones. And Creative's. Teac has no problems of this kind....So, from my point of view, Teac is a better choice...

    TEAC

OK, TEAC is less popular in US. But it is popular in Europe, especially in Germany. TEAC CD-Rs have a reputation of a very good and reliable drives. A year ago (it was in Europe) I decided to buy a CD-R and I did a little research. Based on technical specifications read in Internet I wanted the best: Yamaha. I asked my friend at a computer dealer which drive would he recommend and he answered without even thinking for a second: TEAC. I asked about Yamaha, and he said they had been receiving a lot of returns because of faulty drives. There were almost no returns of TEAC drives and almost no broken drives within warranty period.
Needless to say I bought TEAC, which I use till this day. Happy end.
