OS X: AOL 6 seeded, beta Retrospect X client

updated 03:15 am EDT, Fri April 13, 2001

osx.macnn.com notes Real Software's OS X roadmap, the availability of Dantz' Retrospect Client for OS X (public beta) and a private seed of AOL 5 for OS X. (Yesterday we also noted a fix for the PPP kernel panics experienced by some on multiprocessor G4 machines, a new menu utility for making OS X more Mac-like, and a new beta driver from Kensington.)

Crappy support , pretty much the only game in town and the game sucks. I wish they would just develop a good product and help people when they need it.

    AOL for X

The beta is actually for a carbonized version of AOL 5.0 - not 6 alas. If it is any consolation AOL6 for Win2000 is still in beta as well. The app seems VERY quick on a G4 450, but then again most networking operations under X are quite zippy.

It's no consolation that AOL 6 for Win2000 is still in beta... we're not *even* in beta! Not fair, I say.

    huh?

Retrospect ROCKS! I've never had a problem with their support.. and for cross-platform backups, it's the only way to go... unless you want to shell out a few thousand for the Veritas software..

    Retrospect

I agree, Retrospect is great. It's saved my butt more times than I can remember. Support has always been good for me, and they take suggestions seriously.

    confused replys?

it looks like the first 3 replies here were about AOL and not retrospect.

    no confusion

you might notice the word retrospect in the subject line of the first post. hence the replies to that post that followed.

and to echo the responses of others, retrospect is great. not sure what your gripes are, but i don't have any problem recommending retrospect to others.

    Seriously.

Whenever I've had problems with Retrospect, Dantz has always been incredibly responsive. One time I forgot to call them back about a bug I reported, and they called me 4x at work (when I was on vacation) to ask if the problem had been resolved.

Try using other backup software some time and you'll see Mac (and now Windows) Retrospect users don't know what they're missing ;-)

where can I get it ?

    Lo'
I'm not american. I'd like to run AOL under OSX too, but my country beta keyword let me access only to old betas.
Can someone mirror the beta somewhere so we can all use it underosx ?
    thanx you much
