Apple has scheduled an earnings conference call for its second quarter on Wednesday, April 18, at 5:00 pm Eastern time. Apple is expected to report a small profit for Q2, although one analyst says that a weak March for PC manufacturers, may leave Apple in the red. The call will be moderated by Apple's CFO, Fred Anderson.

For a profit, it would be nice to not give that A-Hole M Dell anything else to b**** about

    Quiet Apple !

When Apple is quite there is something brewing.
Apple will beat the street estimate. This time next week shares will be around $25 and keep rising. It is not just a hope but it is a fact.

I know for a fact that a lot of Unix people have bought Macs since OSX, so it is looking good for this qtr as well.

    Can't we just wait?

For once can't we just wait and hear what the actual results are? How does this analyst know what's going to happen? Analysts thought pets.com was a great idea, too. If you think Apple has good fundamentals and a solid business plan, keep the stock. If not, sell it and go somewhere else.

    Right, mr. Quiet Apple

As we remember from last quarters, Apple is loudly speaking about the chance to miss the targets very early. Now it's been quiet. Knowing Steve Jobs habit's... who knows. I personally hope for the best and rumors about the strong sales of TiBook give also a good ground for it.

The fact of the matter is

that it was ASTOUNDINGLY weak quarter. Maybe not for Apple, though. People have turned from consumers to wise buyers in the face of a possible recession. I myself got a reconditioned G4cube to save bucks, and plugged in my own RAM.

But I wouldn't draw any conclusions from apple's quietness. It's what's called the quiet period, so we'll just have to wait and hear.

I think the key to the quarter could be how well the iMacs do. But I don't have an "on tenterhooks" approach to how well Apple does in any particular quarter -- although this fall quarter is going to be pretty doggoned important.

    Analysts suck

Who is this analyst and why does MacNN pick him to refer to?

Almost every other analyst's report that I have seen has indicated that Apple should make a small profit this quarter; a few have said a very minimal loss. Nothing as bas as this guy.

Also, no one else that I have seen has predicted an annual loss. That just seems insane. Apple has had ONE negative quarter in 3 years and this guy suggests a year loss of 44˘ ??

With the Ti Powerbook, new low cost Cube, CD-RW iMacs, DVD/CD-RW 733Mhz G4, and OS X all introduced this quarter, Apple's sales should be much better than PC manufactures who have not introduced anything interesting in the past 6 months (excpet Compaq's Superdrive system which appears to have prolonged shipping times).

    Betting on a loss

After Last quarter's loss Steve promised a profit this quarter...
    Will he get it?
I doubt it...looking forward to his excuse this time.
It will be the "market is bad overall"....then you look at Dell's boasting...uh-oh.....

    Apple will show a profit

I have no doubt Apple will show a profit.

TiBook and the top towers are selling well, they've done some pretty good product refreshes, and they released OS X right before the quarter closed.

They'll show a profit...the only question is how much of one...
