BlackBerry 9000 to debut next week?

RIM will finally unveil the BlackBerry 9000 next week, BGR claims. The Canadian phone maker is reportedly "confirmed" to be launching its first GSM-based 3G BlackBerry at the Wireless Enterprise Symposium and may do so at a press gathering on May 12th, a day ahead of the full event. Company co-founder Mike Lazaridis will personally introduce the device, while demo units will be available, according to the report.

The 9000 is known to be the first BlackBerry with a higher-resolution, 480x320 screen and will also play home to the new BlackBerry OS 4.6 interface. It will also be the first GSM-based BlackBerry to offer both GPS and Wi-Fi at the same time.

The announcement isn't believed to result in a hard launch and won't see actual service for the new BlackBerry until July, when the phone is most likely to debut first with AT&T and spread to carriers such as Rogers in Canada as well as European and other international providers.
