Several readers note that 3Com has announced plans to shut down Kerbango, its Internet radio/MP3 streaming service. Both iTunes and SoundJam rely on Kerbango for their respective radio features; its unknown what will happen to these features once Kerbango closes its doors.

    Dang

How much more can the internet cave in? Well, at least Bay Area real estate prices might drop and I can buy a place closer to work.

    Are you there Apple?

Mac OS Rumors hinted that Apple might create their own Kerbango replacement, and release a new version of iTunes to use it. Maybe Apple should just buy the existing Kerbango from 3com, domain and all, and let one of their own web designers loose on the page.

    Oh no...

I've truly fallen in love with kerbango, a service I never used before getting iTunes. I would hope that Apple had a heads up on this weeks back, kept it quiet, and have been searching out new partners for the app.

    Kerbango

My streaming Live365 station was listed in the Kerbango tuner and thusly iTunes and SoundJam until last week or so, when it appears that many of the stations pulled up by the two applications changed.

My listenership has gone down dramatically since the station isn't in iTunes anymore. Kerbango certainly was pulling in listeners...what a shame they'll soon be gone....

    Good riddance

Kerbango was c***. Several people on Live365 and ShoutCast, myself included, could never get themselves listed on Kerbango no matter WHAT we tried. Also, I don't know if it's an iTunes glitch or what, but have you compared the number of stations in a genre on iTunes vs. on kerbango.com. TONS more on the web site.

    Re: Good riddance

Those aren't Apple errors - Apple *picked* stations to appear in iTunes, I believe.

In any case, I was also a fan . . . I think I read somewhere that Kerbango was started by a bunch of former Apple employees in the first place? Maybe the fruit will pick them up.

When you think about it, iRadio would be an incredibly fun addition to iTunes - with the ability to broadcast and all.
