Apple Store drops upgrade price for GeForce 3

The Apple Store has reduced the price on upgrading the Power Mac G4's graphics card to the GeForce 3 to $250 over the cost of a GeForce 2 or RADEON. Previously, the upgrade was $350. For purchasers of the low-end 466 MHz G4, which features a Rage 128, the GeForce 3 is a $350 upgrade. Customers who have already placed their orders for a system configured with a GeForce 3 report receiving a price adjustment.

    delay on geforce3

    i ordered a geforce3 card in my g4. today i got an email from apple stating that there is a longer than expected delay on the card, and if i wanted, they'd put a geforce2 card in my machine (and ship it now) and send me the geforce3 when it's available, free of charge.

    the email said they are expecting the geforce3 sometime in may.

    Okay...so...

    The question is, is this a good deal? I just got a new dual 533 with a GeForce 2 in it, and since this upgrade applies to me, I'd definitely consider it. I play an unhealthy dose of Q3, plus a lot of 2D design work.

    Thoughts? I'd like to hear 'em.

    No reduction offered here

    I also got an email stating that I could take the G4 with a 2MX then get a "free" 3 when is ships sometime in May. I also get to keep the 2MX after I receive the 3.

    However, I have NOT gotten any notification of a reduction in price. I wonder if taking the option of getting a machine now with a 2MX then getting a 3 later kills the rebate offer.

    Reduction is Immediate

    Apple won't e-mail you notifying you of a price reduction. Apple won't bill you till your computer ships. The bill will be updated to the current price and you should be able to see a difference in price compared to the original quote.

    According to got apex? GeForce3 price is to be dropped to $399 at retail launch, thanks to the TSMC ramp up on GeForce3 GPU's. The information is confirmed from several anonymous sources close to NVidia. It is a good price for all the hardware fans, but unfortunately the launch is once again delayed. As we are told now, we should expect GeForce3 based boards in the beginning of May.

    We have found another bit about GF3 price drop. Golem.de has confirmed that ELSA GLADIAC 920 will cost about $460 at the launch.

    I think NVidia have done a great job on GeForce3 redesign, as we can see, the ramp is quite high and the prices are getting lower and lower. I honestly think that waiting two months worths $200 saves ;-)

    P.S. The GeForce3 doesn't work well with the Pentium4.

    Damn it!

    The AppleStore says the new geForce3 is ONLY for 4x AGP G4!!!

    Any chance it works also in my 400Mhz 2x AGP G4?
