eWeek has reviewed Apple's PowerBook G4, giving the system very high marks. "Apple's titanium-clad PowerBook G4 sets a new standard in design for all-in-one notebooks." The article also notes that the "500MHz machine also outruns 600MHz Pentium III."

    Clock Speed Issues

"The article also notes that the '500MHz machine also outruns 600MHz Pentium III.'"

That would be just fine, if that was all the 500MHz G4 had to contend with. Alas, Intel has developed a GHz PIII for laptops. We're back to square one again in the clock speed wars.

1 Ghz laptop = crappy cpu

there's no way Intel can make a Ghz PIII for laptops that is anywhere as fast as a desktop version. PIII suck up too huge an amount of juice. Whereas the 500 Mhz G4 (7410?) is practically the same chip as the G4 desktop (7400 and 7450). At most the Ti G4 takes a 10% perfomance hit whereas the PIII takes typically 30%.

    and if that's so...

30% off of a GHz Pentium, would be a 700 MHz P III, which is the same speed as the 500 MHz G4 (without even using Altivec).

    Don't care bout MHz

The TiBook is going to be more than powerful enough for anythig I throw at it. So who gives a c*** about MHz?

Now add in that the design, screen, and battery life are far superior to anything I can get on Wintel, and the choice for me is obvious.

    I'm gettin me a TiBook =]

    Speedstep???

that's what that article called it
which is some crappy intel name
not even to mention that it's technology
that powerbooks have been shipping with
since way way back even before the powerpc
was a glimmer in Amelio's eye
