Apple has ranked among the 100 most ethical companies in a recent edition of "Business Ethics" magazine. Apple was chosen for the list, which also includes IBM and Motorola, because the company uses "responsible business practices."

    Can you say CLONES????

WTF??? Apple totally screwed all the clone makers!!! They tore up the contracts they had signed or cheated there way out by redesignating as OS 8 the old MacOS, rather than Copland as it was meant to be. The screwed everyone by promising Copland would run on all Powerpc macs. Well, 4 years late you can consider OS X what Copland was meant to be, and good luck running it on a 6100/66!!!!! How is that ethical? They sue everyone at the drop of a hat, suppress criticism and discussion whenever possible and treat paying customers like beta testers by not sufficiently testing their products first. Look at all the initial Ti problems. Look at OS X. That is ethical? My balls are ethical!!!

    guess what happend to MS?

And guess what ha[[end to Microsoft...it got booted off the list. Not very surprising...is there still one person on earth not on their paychecks that likes M$?

i think we ought to see a reverse list where most hated companies are listed...like MS or McDonald

If Apple had to make Mac OS X run on your damn 6100/66 it would have been c***. Get some money and buy a new computer you *****!

    WHAT?!

I see that Procter and Gamble is in the TOP 5. WTF is up with that?! They force feed animals chemicals until they die and they sell poisons to humans through vanity products. i hate that company.

How much did they have to pay to get on that list?

    re: Punk

I have a Pismo you ****er. And listen you numnut, OS X is based on the NeXT, which ran on a 68030!!!! Pre powerpc, not even a 68040! So there is no technical reason the innards couldn't run on the lowest end powermac, which is actually a very fast computer, if you knew anything about computers you'd realize that. Until apple came along with the powerpc macs, do you know how much you'd pay for a 66 Mhz Risc "workstation"???? The only reason OS X IS SLOW on a dual processor G4 is all the eye candy c*** they've slapped on. As for all the kernal panics being reported ... well, this IS the "new Apple". i dont think they have any engineers left, just a bunch of decorators and marketers.

Numbnut, I would rather Apple be working on making OS X what it is now, rather than creating drivers and whatnot for each chipset, architecture, card, and processor they've used since the 6100.

    Ethical?

Tell this story to everyone with broken Powerbook G3 hinges, or was caught up in the early PowerMac G4 pricing fiasco, or was told that they'd have to pay $299 for the upgrade from Appleshare IP 6.2 when they'd bought 6.x a few months earlier. The second two issues were fixed, but only because people complained, and Apple was caught with its hand in the cookie jar.
Oh, and one more thing....check the RAM upgrade prices at the Apple Store when buying a machine and compare it to current industry pricing...is that ethical?
I like Apple. I love my Powerbook. But, I'm not sure I could argue them as one of the top 100 ethical companies.

Broken Powerbook G3 hinges were totally covered under warrantee.

The early PowerMac G4 fiasco was not Apple's fault, but they fixed it anyway.

As you stated, the Appleshare IP issue was also rectified by Apple.

Regarding RAM prices, how is it unethical? Apple has high RAM standards and what they sell is top of the line. If you do not want to pay top price for top RAM, then buy from somewhere else. Remember that you often get what you pay for.

Actually, they use decent RAM....Samsung. But they don't use Samsung's top end stuff, and I can get the same Samsung RAM much cheaper from other sources. I'm an Apple authorised service provider too, so I believe I do know what I'm talking about.
By the way, the Powerbook G3 hinges? Want to know how often they fail (much more than any other notebook I've seen, PC or Mac?) under normal use, within 13-16 months? Want to know how it costs $350.00 to fix if they break, for an hour of service and a $20.00 set of hinges?
And...if customers hadn't screamed bloody murder, would Apple have reversed it's G4 and Appleshare pricing fiascos? I can't say with 100% certainty....but I'd bet not. Ethics is based on doing the right thing the first time, not reversing position. I think Apple has done great things throughout its history, and they're not an overall bad company. I just doubt they're in the 100 top ethical out there.
