Following RAM recognition problems experienced by some after applying Apple's recent firmware updates, several Mac-specific memory vendors have written with guarantees (although there are rumors that the issue will be resolved in an another upcoming firmware update from Apple):

[Ramjet] "Ramjet has successfully tested all of its memory products for compatibility with Apple Firmware 4.1.8. The standard Ramjet warranty has now been extended to guaranty compatibility with the latest Apple firmware. Any Ramjet memory user, that is experiencing any RAM issues when running 4.1.8, is asked to please call 1-800-831-4569, and Ramjet will provide an immediate replacement."

[MacSolutions] "MacSolutions RAM is 100% tested and compatible with Apple's latest firmware updaters."

NewerRAM reply - A reader received this reply from NewerRAM:
"Yes, we are aware of the problem. We tested every density in
Macs upgraded with the new firmware and have had no problems so
far. A few people have brought this issue to our attention, but
so far no complaints with NewerRAM."

    Add DMS...

I called Data Memory Systems with an "opted out" 256 CL2 stick. They promised a replacement via overnight delivery. By the way...they want the old memory back.

    OWC memory

From OWC regular e-mail List, dated 28th March:

"OWC memory has not been subject to the 'disappearing' act that is plaguing other lesser memory..."

Hope this puts some people's minds at rest.

    TransIntl

Sent an email to them. They _called_ me back later that day to clarify, said they didn't get many responses, and that they were testing the RAM with a Pismo (my config) today, and would let me know by tomorrow. He said "don't worry, itt's guaranteed." I'll wait for Apple.

    Feedback from Mushkin

I e-mailed Mushkin the other day about the firmware problem and this is the reply they sent back to me:

    Hi Daniel,
    thanks for the email
We have had a couple of calls about the memory problem with the new firmware - so far it has not been a problem with mushkin modules :-)
thank you for the positive feedback ... enjoy your chips! I hope we can help you out in the near future
all our chips have lifetime warranty and full tech support
let me know your questions - feel free to call or email
    Thanks

I have already upgraded my iBook to the new firmware and the only memory I have is the original 64MB. I need to upgrade that amount to 128MB for OS X, but was to nervous to do so because of all the problems. Now that Mushkin has replied to my e-mail, I think I'll go ahead and upgrade.

    PNY Brand

Just wanted everyone to know that I went by Best Buy last night to replace the 128MB MicroTech stick that the iMac rejected (now living happily in the wife's P3). The brand is PNY.... which appears to be only one of two RAM brands carried in Best Buy stores, at least in this area (the other is K8). I was familiar with the PNY brand through their CD-R's (rarely ever a coaster, and the Black Diamonds are very cool). Popped it in, and no trouble.

It's got a lifetime guarantee, too, and Best Buys in areas other than mine (Boston) might have different brands, I guess. Also, before you run out, the clerk said they didn't carry higher than 128MB in the PC100.
