Adobe has finally committed to delivering its applications on OS X with a new OS X-compatibility statement posted today at its Website that provides details on each of its applications.

Adobe supports the direction Apple is taking with OS X. Apple's new operating system promises to ultimately deliver a powerful desktop platform with enhanced stability and reliability for the Macintosh customer.

Currently, most of Adobe's software products do not offer native OS X support. Adobe plans to support OS X native mode in future releases of our flagship products, beginning with Adobe® Acrobat® Reader™ 5.0.

    Um.

    Hey Adobe! Are you carbonizing or porting to X?

    Just wondering...

    native = Carbon

    I wish it meant Cocoa but it's probably going to be Carbon. Also, what's the point of porting Acrobat if OS-X supports PDF natively?

    Native better mean Cocoa

    Native better mean Cocoa... or more importantly they better release Carbon ports before the "next major release".

    Also consider that they demo-ed a carbon version of photoshop 5 in 1998 at Seybold.

    A carbonized Photoshop can't come soon enough.

    Apple should help

    I believe it was Apple that worked on the rough Carbon port of Photoshop 5. If Apple really wants to give OSX a boost, they should assist Adobe in getting their applications on OSX. Two companies working on one companies software would certainly speed up application availability.

    Cocoa please

    I will be happy with the carbonized version of PH for now, but Cocoa version is what we all want, and it can't come soon enough!

    The companies that comes out with the Cocoa app's first have the chance to shift the battlefield in their market place.

    Developers, go cocoa...now!

    Switch!

    Maybe it's finally time for you to switch to Macromedia products, especially given that Macromedia have made their support for OS X abundantly clear, They'll be releasing a carbonized Freehand soon.

    Macromedia?

    What would Macromedia's alternative to Photoshop be, exactly?

    Adobe is short-sighted

    The best way to sink Apple and OS X is for software developers to take a pass at Cocoa and Carbon applications. Adobe should embrace OS X, not give it the cold shoulder.

    What application could be more important to the Macintosh than Photoshop? Did Adobe think Jobs was "kidding" on the release date? If they "wait and see" on this, they can almost guarantee OS X's demise.

    Adobe should consider the fact that half its sales are to Macintosh. It should realize that OS X is a big opportunity for upgrades. Finally, it should recognize that it's real nice to have an alternate operating system, especially one that is dependent on it.

    We could have had OS X (or some differently named NeXT-based OS) in 1998 if it hadn't been for feet-dragging developers. STOP HOLDING THE MAC HOSTAGE!

    CARBON == NATIVE!!!

    Carbon is also native...both carbon and cocoa are native apps. There are really no advantages for a carbon based application to migrate to cocoa. Cocoa is a framework...nothing more.

    Please don't think that because a company ships a carbon version of an app that it is not native.
