Adobe today announced Atmosphere, its new 3D Web-authoring tool that allows users to easily create virtual reality-like Web sites. The cutting-edge technology is only employed by select sites, something that Adobe is hopping Atmosphere will change. A Windows beta has also been posted, with a Mac version of the beta due in the early summer. The final release is expected by the end of summer. Pricing has not yet been set. [updated]

    Hey Adobe...

If/when you guys release a version of Atmoshere for the Mac, just Carbonize it from the start. Don't release a Windows version first and then release a version for the Mac that won't run nativley in X. Carbon apps do run in 9.x you know...

    Once again...

Thank's Adobe for putting us Mac users in second class...
We were and still are the ones that made you what you are today.

I don't like what I see at Adobe... Hum... Hi Macromedia, yes those new tools look nice! :)

You're not gonna see Carbonized versions of Adobe stuff until summer anyway. Just like every other major developer. Give us a developers a break. It isn't like some magical checkbox that says "Carbonize Now".

    Carrara codebase?

I'm guessing this'll be using the Carrara code bought by Adobe from Metacreations last year ....

I'm wondering if the 3d enabling technology we'll be seeing unveiled is going to run using a variation of Metastream , or if it'll be a .swf or SVG (LiveMotion) linked output ....

Interesting, what with Intel and macromedia's forthcoming web3d format

And annoying, considering that the mac os is becoming more competitive to develop web and 3d work on ....

Don't leave the mac os platform aside Adobe ... we need high profile support for new products like this ....

    VRML

Looks like VRML repackaged. 3-d online communities *have* succeeded in a way though--as online multiplayer RPGs (eg., Asheron's Call, Diablo). These offer something interesting to do, and players can talk to each other, and occasionally trade things. Sure, it's not The Web, and there's no web integration but surely that hasn't deterred anyone. People even get married on these things. Don't like fantasy worlds? Just launch ICQ. And online shoppers probably want something more efficient than a VRMLized version of having to go out to a shop, walk around, and buy something. Sure, there could be Javascript that pops up a website, but what's the point? For such purposes, launch a web browser yourself at say, llbean.com. No need to be locked into a 3-d way of doing things when you can just mix and match the best ways yourself.

    waiting for your X Announ

Hey Adobe, rememver us Mac guys. If you're trying to tick us off, its working. Every other developer seems to have given an annoucement and a scheduled release for their X applications. You think Adobe would at least be on Apple OS X application page, evere other major developer is. This is sending me a clear signal. Bye, bye Adobe, hello Macromedia

    RE:RE:Hey Adobe

If I remember right Photoshop was one of the FIRST apps demoed on MacOS X. I be lieve the comments were something along the lines of 'porting to OS X was an incredibly fast process.' So either Adobe did not want to commit the resources needed to do it quickly or it was NOT as easy as it was billed (to port). In regards to the Mac getting second billing, yes that is disappointing. Once upon a time the Mac was the #1 platform for web development, I'm not so sure that is the case anymore.

    PC and Mac Web Developers

Kind of funny. Started using the competitors tool Dreamweaver and found it to be more productive than Adobe's collection. Thought I was somekind of traitor. Then I found out most of my associates on the PC side also are using Macromedia. The message might be that regardless of who Adobe develops for first, they still have a long way to go in convincing actual users.

    Whattaya complaining?

Virtual reality apps are an essential waste of developer time. No one is going to jump on this one, but at least Adobe can afford it.

If you don't think Adobe listens to your feedback, maybe you aren't sending it to them?
