Research Systems' announces IDL for OS X

updated 06:25 pm EST, Fri March 23, 2001

Research Systems plans to release its scientific visualization application, IDL (Interactive Data Language) for Mac OS X. Research Systems' other products built on IDL will also support Mac OS X including ENVI (Environment for Visualizing Images), RiverTools (hydrology and terrain analysis), and VIP (Visual IDL Programming). This Mac OS X port will be based on IDL and the company plans to implement a fully native reimplementation of IDL for Mac OS X using the Cocoa frameworks that will "provide increased performance and stability with plans for support of the Aqua interface, multi-processing, and extensive Velocity Engine integration."

    When ?

I'm using IDL right now. (Works great as a classic app, BTW, now that OS X supports the USB hasp... I haven't tried the ADB one.) My problem with this press release is that it gives NO IDEA of when this great day of Cocoa IDL will occur.
