Apple UK has quietly lowered the price on the 733 MHz CD-RW Power Mac by £100 to £2,099. The price at the US Apple Store remains $2,999. Apple officially introduced the configuration just a week ago, citing a greater-than-expected yield of 733 MHz processors that exceeded SuperDrive availability.

    733s

If there are so many spare 733s, why not a dual-processor version? More likely it's a shortage of SuperDrives, it seems to me!

    re: about the 667.....

I think you may be on to something there -- I just checked the estimates for shipping from the Apple Store (U.S.) and got the following results for the standard configs:

    466/533 : 1 day
    533 DP : 4 days
    667 : 10 days
    733 : 1 day
    733/DVD-R : 15 days

So, for only $200 more I can get a faster computer in far less time (the 667 is $2799 while the 733 is $2999 with the same specs other than processor speed). Sounds like a no-brainer to me. Maybe they'll replace the 667 with a dual-processor 667 instead?

    Possible grounds for suit

I thought that "Superdrive" was patented to Imation for the USB/1.4" disk drive?

    It's the Drive

Apple can sell every 733 w/Superdrive than can deliver. I called Mac warehouse on Monday, and they said they won't have any more intil mid-April, and they still have over 200 backorders to fill. I think Apple has the exact number of 733 processors they expected, just no drives. So they had to offer Superdrive-less 733's to clear out stock.

    Superdrive Suit

If any lawsuit over the name Superdrive is n order it will be Apple sueing Imation since EVERY Apple 1.4MB floppy drive was called a Superdrive long before Imation was even a company

Isn't Imations disk called a SuperDisk not SuperDrive?

BTW: You do know that Imation is just the name of a 3M division, and 3M is older than Apple ;-)
