Tech: IBM tops 2000 patent list

Evening tech news: PGP creator Phil Zimmerman, who left Network Associates and PGP behind recently over a dispute concerning the publishing of the latest version of the encryption standard, has joined Hush Communications as its chief cryptographer; John MacFarlane has left Sun Microsystems to join a start-up that provides high-speed networking equipment to service providers; and IBM received the most patents in 2000 for the third year in a row with 2,922 patents awarded.
