Morning tech news: Adobe was up 7% in preopen Island trading after posting better-than-expected first-quarter earnings of 33 cents a share. Compaq warned it would fail to meet earnings expectations for the third quarter by at least 22 percent and would lay off approximately 7 percent of its workforce.

    Apple's turn

    I can't imagine Apple won't have to warn this quarter ... just waiting for the day. :(

    Wait Until OS X and XP

    Wait until Microsoft's WindowsXP is released then most PC makers and software co's will slowly show better earnings due to having sales of their "XP Ready" PCs & software.
    The same will happen for Apple and software co's too, I know many PC users who are waiting the perfect time to jump the Wintel ship to MacOS X as they like the idea of a crashproof and very reliable OS.

    Compaq=piss poor cust rel

    I bought a Compaq notebook in 1999 for WebObjects development, since Apple has been nuwilling and unable to make a notebook for us w*** guys. The normal warranty is 12 months. Slightly over a year after I bought it, my needs changed and I needed to upgrade the RAM. My RAM slot was broken. There was no way in h*ll that I broke it since it is internal to the machine and I never opened it or tride to use that part. It had to have come from the factory broken. Compaq says "Sory, your warranty is expired". I say, "sorry, it was broken when I bought it. I am not trying to get warranty work, I am trying to get IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY work, because your PR on this machine claims it will support 192MB, but mine doesn't" But they refuse to stand by their products. Luckily, the New Hampshire UCC disallows their denial of any implied warranty of mechantability because their denial message does not follow NHs UCC laws, so when I get to small claims court in a few months, they should lose. And they have lots of assets here in NH too since they bought DEC...
    Compaq sucks royally.

    Compaq is dead!

    Oh my goodness, compaq laid off 7 percent of its workers and lost money too! I can't wait to see all of the major magazine headlines proclaiming the death of compaq! Oh wait, there aren't any. I guess the press only does that when apple reports a loss. My bad.
