updated 01:15 pm EST, Thu March 15, 2001

Afternoon console news: LucasArts Entertainment has announced that it will bring Escape from Monkey Island to the Playstation 2 this spring; after evaluating the market, Sony has indicated that it has no plans to develop its own portable game console to compete with Nintendo's Game Boy Advance and will instead rely on the gaming power of cell phones to add mobility to its Playstation 2 console; Infogrames has announced Test Drive for the Playstation 2, which will ship this Fall, complete with a recompletely revamped graphics engine to take advantage of the console's increased graphics performance; and Broadwing Communications has been named the exclusive network provider for New Millenium Entertainment, the service formed by former executives of Sega.com to offer a high-speed gaming network capable of hosting over a million users simultaneously.
