Apple has posted its "Introduction to Mac OS X" tutorials online. This is a mirror of the tutorials sent to developers in this month's ADC mailing and includes tutorials on Cocoa, Carbon and Java programming as well as sample programs and source code. The Developer Tools needed to work with these files is also linked on this page.

    Not correct?

Unless I'm mistaken, those tutorials (MoonTravel etc) are nothing new and have been sitting in that location for a few months.

Also there appears to be no later Tools for download than the ones from October.

    Java 1.3 for MacOS X

You can find a few interesting fact in the Java Tutorial. First, Java threads are implemented as Mach threads. Thus, Java programmer can take advantage of SMP.

Second, the JVM provides double buffering for all appilcations. This means even AWT applications are double buffered. For other platforms, only Swing supports double buffering.

All the files linked on that page are dated the 8th, also several of the pdfs indicate late January/early Feb. revision dates, while as you say, some are several months old.

    More Java Info

I also thought it was cool that the Mac OS X JVM also supports class code data sharing. In english, that means that two or more Java applications can share similiar Java classes, reducing the extra overhead of Java apps.

    multitasking Java

Now that would be something. Time and again, I would venture to one Java website, and then go to another, and it wouldn't close the old Java app on me from the other website. Result? System freeze, Type 1 crash, and sometimes the web browser would appear to quit for no reason with no dialog box. I really look forward to this.
