Adobe officially posts Photoshop 6.0.1 update

updated 10:40 am EST, Fri March 9, 2001

Adobe has re-posted its Photoshop 6.0.1 update, after making the file briefly available two weeks ago. Customers who downloaded the previous update, which was pulled for unknown reasons, must reinstall Photoshop 6 to apply the new updater. Photoshop 6.0.1 includes a number of fixes and feature enhancements that are documented on the page.

    What's the Difference?

I installed the updater from a few weeks ago and everything seems stable. I would rather not have to reinstall to get the later one. Does anyone know the difference between the two?

    The difference

6.0.1 was still being tested when the previous updater was put on a not-too-well-hidden FTP link at ftp.adobe.com. We (Adobe) hopefully learned our lesson there: if it's on the public server, even in an "invisible" directory meant for staging, it's fair game for someone to find.

A few further fixes were required for the app, hence this official 6.0.1 update is different than the previous one. Of course, we recommend applying this official one.

    Photoshop 6.01

I attempted to install the updater but got an error message that said Photo 6 could not be found, and then another message said that I did not need the updater for my hardware setup.

I"m using Photo right now... so I don't know what the problem is.

    same here

Neither the previous 6.0.1 update nor this one could find a copy of Photoshop or ImageReady. I guess I'll try reinstalling it, but it doesn't seem like I should have to.

    Nope. Can't Find It.

I'm having the same problem. "Can't find Photoshop 6...blah blah blah".

I trashed P6, reinstalled it, and ran the updater. No-go. Can't find it. WTF!!!!!!!!!! Adobe drives me crazy with their updaters.

    If not finding PS 6

Read the installer "Read Me". The updater searches for PS with a creation date of "Mon, Sep 25, 2000". Do a "Get Info" on your PS file...see if that date is there. If it isn't, use Resedit to change the date. That's what I did with mine...and it updated fine.

    LOL...

Ahh ha ha ha .... adobe sucks nowadays... they came and showed us how to "use" GoLive at work... ??? We were schooling those Adobe fools... They didnt even know how to answer any of our questions about GoLive... slackers....

anyway, I am NOT a Macromedia user BUT boy is that company on the Adobe war path... buying Allaire and positioning themselves as the only provider of Web Application Dev Tools as well as Web Graphics Development... they are on the right path... Adobe is lost in the print world doing horribly with InDesign....

I someday want to switch to fireworks and dreamweaver.... and UltraDev... but I think realistically I will use which ever company gets their stuff Carbonized first....

    Q to "can't update" fo

What is the Get Info Created date on the app the updater reported it was unable to update? Was this a cleanly installed installation, or had it been backed up and restored, or moved from another disk or machine such that the date might have changed?
