    LCD price downslide begin

I am glad that the LCD industry finally got the message and began to cut down their outrageous prices. Maybe by the summer the 17" LCD will all be around 500.00 bucks, which is where people will start buying them in masse.

    Yay! Not ADC!

What a garbage technology, that ADC connector is.

At least I can use this with my PowerBook G4. Oh, and did I mention that it's only $100 more than that (puny) 15" Studio Display?

Analog video, no USB, and ugly. Know what I mean? Last Century technology. They should be selling it for $500.

Anyone using ADC knows what the 21st Century feels like.

    Not good

How big do the pixels have to be or how far apart do they have to be to max out at 1280x1024 at 17"? The image can't be that sharp compared to a smaller LCD with the same max res. think about it.. on a lcd, a pixel is a physical entity, unlike a CRT. That means there's 1280x1024 pixels on a 17" LCD. A 15" lcd with the same resolution WILL be sharper (all other things equal) because it has more pixels per square unit of measurement.

    Re: Not good

Most 15" LCDs max out at 1024x768, not 1280x1024.

I use a 17" 1280x1024 LCD at work (Samsung) - let me assure you, the display is bright, crisp, sharp, and clear.

Also remember, sometimes pixels can be too small. 1280x1024 at 17" is a good size.

    Wrong-o! It's Nice!

I just saw this monitor in person, next to several other 15" flat panels, which were generally $200-500 more expensive, and this one looked so much better. The picture quality was what initially drew me to the monitor. And then i saw the price - $899! Trust me, in person next to the competition, it looks great.

    why 1024 instead of 960?

it seems a little stupid to offer a monitor with a native resolution that doesn't have a 1:1 pixel aspect ratio!

I like square pixels for graphics work.

any other has square pixels why does the 1280 x 1024 resolution even exist when all monitors apart from the widescreen models have a 4:3 screen size. Unless of course flat panels offering a 1280 x 1024 resolution actually have a 5:4 screen size which would make anything other than the native resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels appear stretched.

I'd buy a flat panel in a snap when the prices come down but I'd be more inclined to spend say £350 each on 2 15" 1024 x 768 resolution flat panels so I get lots of screen space for protools and still have square pixels for the odd bit of graphics work and general pickyness.

    17" 1280 x 1024

I use a Dell 17" LCD at a naitive 1280 x 1024 and the aspect ratio is the same as any conventional CRT. Nothing looks stretched at all, and geometry/focus tests are sharp as can be.
I love my Dell LCD (I think it's made by Phillips), and almost 1yr ago it was only $1100 (cheap for the day).
Still looks good as new, and tons better than my 19" CRT running at the same resolution (and nearly the same image size, too).
