Mac OS X public beta on a PowerBook

Road testing Apple's new operating system, David MacNeill reviews Mac OS X public beta on his mobile machine for Digital Camera Magazine, concluding "Mac OS X revitalizes the moribund state of PC operating systems, from how they are designed and maintained to how they look and feel. Most importantly, X dramatically improves the quality of the time we spend with our computers, a factor that seems to have been overlooked by every computer company except Apple. "

    Damn right

Currently I am viewing this site on my father's pc...and well I can only agree that other companies (ie microsoft) have completly overlooked the human side of computers. As just before I checked this site I said to my brother "This is why I use Mac's, if I was required to use windows full time, I would never be into computers in the way that I am...It's just Soooo dull"

    Exceptional review

This is an amazing review. It has been well written and clearly thought through. I am more excited about osX than ever. I`ve returned to the Mac platform after a 9 year hiatus, for very good reason.

OS X on my TiBook will thrill.

Be scared Microsoft. Very scared. You don`t got nothin`

    I Remember This Guy!

I remember this guy, he used to write software reviews/how to articles concerning the Apple Newton in Pen Mobile magazine. I always like his reviews very much. With the demise of the Newton he moved on. I hope that we see more of his reviewing.

    Good

Power is Next! OS X really rocks and I think it's one of the best things in the computer industry. Micros*ft tries to copy it (Windows XP) but if the result is like Win 2K (yes, I use it every day at work) well, they are light years behind. They will never understand the simplicity and the elegance beneath the OSes and the machines that the Apple people make. And if you say that under Win there a lot of stuff, I say yes, but all that stuff is useless. Think the databases: under Win you should install them, configure them, connect them, program them and that's not easy at all! The server doesn't work, bugs, hours spent to start it up... OS X, well, it has a database engine, IT IS a database engine. Cocoa gives you the possibility to serialize an object. GOOD THINGS.

    Great Review

    This guy writes GOOD reviews.

    A) He doesn't spew out the Apple 'propaganda'.
    B) He actually really knows how to write!

He should write more often... :-P

This guy is pretty cool, even mentions the possibility of OS X on x86, and how to hack AirPort. not bad.

    well.

he has a great writing style. he is what i would consider a journalist to the letter. great command of language, non-biased, no fluff. he should give charles haddad some writing lessons. heh. another one of my favorite "writers/reviewers of the computer world" is david pogue. he writes technical stuff that makes you laugh out loud. beautiful stuff.

    David's review

David MacNeill has a beautiful writing style. His humor is also non-intrusive and fits elegantly into the discussion. I loved the review. Like another commenter, I am re-encouraged to plunge into OS X immediately. Many experts warn against using any OS dot zero version. But from this review I feel I would just miss about 6 months of the fun. Thanks for letting us read this article.
