Samsung introduces new 24" digital LCD

Samsung, in whom Apple invested $100 million to further expand Samsung�s TFT-LCD flat-panel display production capacity, is now offering a 24" digital LCD monitor.

The Syncmaster 204T offers support for resolutions of up to 1920x1200 pixels, a dual monitor support to toggle between input from two different monitors, support for both DVI Compliant and Analog input, and a 16:10 aspect ratio. The $8,000 monitor also supports picture-in-picture, or multi-screen functionality, which can display multiple windows on the screen and offers "True Color", 16.7 million color support. Supporting two full-size A4 pages, it delivers more than 170 degrees of conic view and the company says that "all images regardless of input resolution can be scaled to 1920x1200, 16:10 WUXGA mode with unsurpassed sharpness and vividness." 24" monitor

I wouldn't be surprised if a 24" Cinema Display is introduced in NYC in July (price tag: $3999) and the 22" drops to $2,500 or $1999.

Samsung is the manufacturer and it doesn't appear that they have an online store, so they have no cause to show a retail price yet. You can make an educated guess now on how much it's going to be anyway...

24" of poor image qualit

The version sold in the UK is called 240T and has a poor image quality, not what you're looking for when you're spending �4200 ($6000).

Already tested it!

We had one of these for testing at our company in early December. It is very expensive, close to $6.500 (at least that is the european pricing).

One strange thing is that you can not reach the 1920x1200 resolution using the digital input, only with analog input!

Using the DVI connector you are restricted to 1280x1024.

Rather nice monitor though...huge!

24" LCD

Hooking up the 24" LCD to a PowerBook would just take care of your dream of 24" PowerBook. Most seasoned travelers are still looking for a sub-PowerBook, not one with a large screen.

Well, I have news for you. The same applies in a plastic surgeon's office.

GOOD investment

I'm so proud that Apple made such a good investment. When prices come down, Apple will be the first to offer a cosumer computer with a LCD screen (LCD iMac/Cube).

I think that's because the DVI's bandwidth is limited to 165MHz (up to 1600x1200@24bpp).

dual g4+ @733 mhz, a Geforce3 and two radeon PCIs, and three of the above monitors. that would just about meet my needs. now, if we can just get a panaramic version of quake.

I saw it at Fry's

There's one of these at the new Fry's in Houston... $7,999 of horrid image quality. It was impressive, but I guess the analog to digital converter sucks or something, because it was REALLY blurry, no matter which resolution I set it to. It ran at 1920x1200 (which must be its native res.) but was less than acceptable. Maybe it looks better at 1280x960 or whatever the top digital res is, but it's not worth the $8k price tag at Fry's... the TiBook they have (had?) though... Mmm.

I've yet to see a Cinema display, so I can't make a biased comparison :P

Could be

I have seen the 22" Cinema Display up close, and for the side etc, and it is beautiful. Only problem was lower resolution left you wih black borders on the sides and if set to an usupported res blanked the entire monitor and I think can only be recovered by booting from a CD and trashing the monitors prefs. That and the $3000 price tag.

ibm has a new lcd that is 20 inches or something, but the resolution is something crazy like 2000 x 1500... talk about packing your pixels into tight spaces

24" PowerBook?

To the poster that wants one of these on a PowerBook:

Yeah, right. Like anyone would want to carry around a PowerBook with a 24" screen.

First of all, if you have a PB, you don't need a screen that big. A PB user is after smallness, not largeness.

Try fitting a 24" screen through the Xray machine at the airport. Now try stowing it under the seat in front of you. Hmm...doesn't fit, does it? Open it up on your tray table while you occupy the center seat in an aisle. How many people are you pissing off now?

Bottom line: Whinings about a PB not having a 24" screen is obviously done by a person that doesn't have a PB in the first place.

My 12" screen on my PB results in a 7 LB computer. Take a 7lb weight and carry it around with you for a week in shoulder bag. Then re-evaluate your need for a 24" screen.

As for me, 12" is too much. If I want a 24" screen, it will be on my desktop, not on my hip.

Gee some one can't take a joke. You should try the 9" screen on my PB and see if you like it ;) I know, just make the 24" screen roll up.
