Derek Wong notes that Apple's updated software bundle for the G4 Cube does not include DVD-models, according to documentation at the Apple Store: "Only CD-RW models include Bugdom, Nanosaur, CroMag Rally, Mac OS 9.1 and AppleWorks 6."

    What's the point?

Why do they have to make this so confusing? It should be pretty easy:

You get an iMac, you get this software.

You get a Cube, you get this software.

You get a PowerBook, you get this software.

You get a PowerMac, you get this software.

Configuring software within models is completely ridiculous.

    well...

the dvd models for slae right now are likely the overstock from the last revision. they're the same, after all. wait for the channel to get rid of that overstock, and i'd bet the newly-manufactured dvd cubes have the sw.

    Not worth it

waiting to get rid of the leftover stock still isn't worth the consumer confusion. They should just offer a mail in offer of the software. You send in your upc symbol and a copy of your receipt along with a free software bundle form and Apple sends you the stuff. They did it before with ClarisWorks back in '92.

    I'll wait a little more

OK I will just wait a little more before buying my Cube, till the situation is corrected (softwares available and expandability of the lower model !)

    Whose to say?

that once the overstock is gone, DVD models of the Cube will continue to be part of Apple's product line?
After all, DVD has ceased to exist across the rest of the line with the exception of the top-end G4 tower. I'd probably consider calling the Apple Store and seeing what could be done about it.

    Weird

The $1299 Cube used to have a CD-RW drive. So now, apparently, a CD-RW and 64MB of RAM are worth $300 more than a DVD-ROM Drive?? That's ridiculous!! The $1599 config should at least have a 40GB hard drive, and possibly a GeForce 2 MX video card as well for that much more money... Let's call the Apple Store and raise a little bit o' h***!

    3 Games?

Is Apple trying to push the cube as a gaming machine or something..? Seems silly.

Not to mention that all 3 games are from the same developer... booooring... Pangea makes cheesy games. Is apple still trying to figure out who their market is for the cube? The cube doesn't seem like 'the family Mac' to me... So why the 'kid-friendly' game selection? Surely they can get something more appealing to adults?

    Always s******* with it

Seems Apple always has to s**** with a good thing. They finally seemed to realize that the Cube wasn't what Steve thought it was--the market seems to see it as an iMac you can put a bigger monitor in (of course, they put a G4 in it, so it can't be as cheap). If it's an iMac, it should come with Appleworks--all iMacs and Cubes should. Then again, it seems all machines except possibly those at the very high end should. How much could Appleworks be costing them to give away, anyway?
