Michael Gaines sent us some notes regarding the G4/733 system that he received. "[It] comes with 2 blank DVD-Rs and 2 blank CD-Rs. I had no idea that Apple would provide blank media, especially DVD-Rs since their Web site has them listed with a 45 day wait (we all know what that means). Hopefully this means that the 5-packs will be shipping soon. One odd thing about the new G4 is that it wouldn't boot off of the Software Restore CD with my 3-button Kensington mouse connected. I had to connect the Apple Pro mouse and reboot."

    How does it perform?

    Have you owned/used another G4 model you could compare it to?

    Pop open the profiler, what speed is the ram, 222 or 322?

    What brand is the hard drive? IBM?

    I have a 533MP and a kensington orbit and have had no problem booting off the software restore disk. In fact, that was one of the first things I did to partion the drive.

    Kensington mouse

    I've heard there's an issue with all Kensington USB mice. If that's true, then maybe that's why you had trouble with your mouse.

    Hold on a sec.. :)

    Hi guys,
    Well, I haven't really done THAT much with it yet. Let me answer some questions:

    1) Yes, I have a G4/400 Sawtooth with the original ATI and a Voodoo 5 in it. UT benchmarks using TimeDemo are...strange. It says 17 FPS, but it's just as good, if not better than the Voodoo. I'm still transferring things from one computer to another so you'll have to wait a bit for me to iron out the issues.

    2) Have I authored anything? Well, in preparation for the machine, I put together a 90-minute video of our trip to Spain in '92. I started the authoring work but it's not finished yet. Believe me, it's very high on my priority list on things to do this weekend.

    3) I ordered it before the keynote ended. "It does WHAT??? ".

    4) I have the Q3 CD here to be installed. Be patient ;).

    I'll post more when I get everything moved over and I can put the old G4 to rest.
