RAID specialist Micronet, whose products included the FireWire SANcube, has ceased operations. Ampex, Micronet's parent company, announced the closure yesterday with little additional details. Micronet had failed to turn a profit since its inception. The SANcube Web site redirects to Netus, a networking company, with no details on the SANcube. [updated]

Cobalt doesn't make RAIDs. I suggest you check your facts before posting.

    BAH-bye

We bought one of the Micronet Genesis1 RAIDs and had a terrible time dealing with Micronet. Drive failures, OS issues and upgrade problems never seemed to end. Our issues got so bad that at one point we were dealing with a top VP. After a time he stopped returning calls and support dried up too. Come to find out a month later the VP had up and left without word one. Micronet never managed to follow through on the first try when we had problems. They would have to be pestered and bugged and prodded. I know a bunch of people who used the DataDock products and loved them. Wish I could say the same for our Genesis, but I regret it all the time. Personally, I will not miss Micronet if they have truely died. I think they were slowly killing themselves from the inside for a long time.

    3ware makes RAIDs

3ware makes RAIDs for Macintosh. They use GigE as their interconnect instead of Fibrechannel. www.3ware.com

    FD or Fantom Drives

FD make great raid level 1 and 5s. they do use intel hardware raid controllers but they are very good and hot swapable. every micronet product I have ever used had been s*** on a Mac or a PC.

    What gives?

You guys must be kidding me.
As soon as someone goes down it's time to trash them???
Just like Apple a few years ago, huh????
You were probably there as well; with hammer and nails
    ready to box them.
Their Genesis and DataDock products are top notch.
Enough that most of the top creative and media companies around have embraced them.
You should only the know the whole story!

The Cobalt RaQ4 is available in a Raid model (RaQ4r).
The RaQ XTR has Raid support for upto four IDE drives.
Depending on your needs, this may be enough for you.

Do most of the folks posting here even know about the SanCube?

It was a pretty cool product, just way over priced. Yes, this product was a RAID, but the thing that made it cool was the fact that one could share it with several users over Firewire! True, Fibre channel and Gigabit eithernet solutions do provide more bandwidth and better configurability than this product did. But this was like the ideal solution for a group of folks who wanted to make their next DV feature film. They could all hook up their G3 or G4 towers, start up Finial Cut and Combustion and get to work. No networking, just shared storage. True, it wasn't actually as nice and easy as I described it. But it could've been...
