The Apple Store now offers six standard Power Mac G4 configurations, including the $2,500 "Faster Dual" 533 MHz multiprocessor system, and a $3100 "Special Offer" 733 MHz system that features a CD-RW drive in place of the SuperDrive. Additionally, users can custom build a G4 system with the new nVIDIA GeForce3—expected to ship in April—as a $450 upgrade from the Rage 128 Pro, or a $350 upgrade from the GeForce2 MX/Radeon. The 64 MB AGP GeForce3 is also available on its own for $600. Finally, Apple's 5-pack of DVD-R media has returned for $50.

    Read the announcement

Please note that Apple Store says that the GeForce3 will not be shipping until late April. So if it ships before May 1 then Apple is on schedule.

I hope we will not have to hear another bunch of whining from people who do not have any patience.

This is cutting edge video technology. It is coming to the Mac before it is available for PCs. No one will have it before April. Be happy that it is coming - do not b**** because you can not have it today.

    More Superdrives

I hope Apple moves the Superdrives into all processor cofigurations on the G4 tower.

    Complication

You know, if there was reasoning behind reducing the amount of system options and configuration packages 2 years ago, which I think was a good thing, why has that concept been totally abandoned. Why can't they still have say 3 solid choices and everything else be BTO? I think that page at the Apple store looks ridiculous, with 6 slightly different options to choose from, I think it is just further complication the buying process, for someone moving to the Mac. But I am happy about all the new choices : )

I think the main reasoning behind the inclusion of DVD-R in only the top G4 is that the processor needs to be really fast to do all this stuff. That and Apple wants people to buck up if they want the bleedin' edge toys.

    Alti Vec X 4

well...since there are 4 alti vec units doing the actual mpeg encoding to DVD its 100% understandable. Its a special system. 1st of it kind. and they didnt even have to put a PCI mpeg encoder board in it. The suped-up processor is doing it for you. let see the P4 encode mpeg at 2X on to a DVD disk at a reasonable price.
