BlueLight.com modifies free ISP terms

Kmart's BlueLight free Internet service, the last Mac-compatible nationwide provider of free Internet access, has announced that it will begin limiting free access to just 12 hours per month. Users can also opt to purchase a premium account for $10 per month that includes 100 hours of access. In December, BlueLight hinted that such changes to its free ISP service would arrive in February. Last week, Juno, a pioneer in free Internet service, admitted that the business model was dead and that the company was open to acquisition offers.

It's certain people's lack of recognition of it that's news.

    forget free....

I messed with free ISPs for about 6 months and finally gave up. Just too much hassle. Now they're basically all gone anyway.

I'm now using www.cyber-age.net (no affiliation). $8.99 a month for unlimited access and they have nationwide dialup numbers (I've traveled some and haven't been without without a local number yet). You can do all the signup online. Not much tech support but who needs it....just put your info into Remote Access and away you go.

    I'm quite happy with it.

    No Mac support anyway

    From a BlueLight faq:
" Can I use the BlueLight.com Internet Service on my Macintosh?
No, we no longer offer or support a Macintosh version of our Internet software. If you happen to have an old
version of our software that was Mac-compatible, it may continue to let you connect to our Internet service for some period of time. But as we will not be able to offer upgrades, fix bugs, or provide any technical support for the Mac software, we strongly recommend that our Mac users find another Internet service provider."

I e-mailed 'em and told 'em that I was strongly recommending that Mac users find another store at which to shop . . .

    mac service

Bluelight may "no longer support" a Mac version of their software, but their software still works on a Mac (I'm using it right now). That said, Mac users aren't losing much if they lose Bluelight; the client software (made by Spinway) is the worst piece of garbage in telecommunications history.

    Bluelight sucks

Well, Bluelight said that starting on the 28th, they would stop supporting Macs....hrm......they started early...
I depend on a free service because I have parents which will only pay for WebTV, which way bites.
This 12 hour thing only makes their sh*tty service only worse--I had to spend 5 days attempting to get tech support for their client, as it recently started crashing at opening and fatally locking up my machine. Their "crack team of techicians" (actually a mail bot) took way longer than their "fast response time of less than 24 hours", and they sent me a WINDOWS repair faq, which didn't help me at all..and I only got a Mac fix faq 2 days later...that's hella fast...NOT!
LOL and it still crashes upon disconnect. Fatal Crash. Fxck you--Bluelight!

    KMart sucks newaze

Who shops at KMart? You guys with Macs actually shop at KMart? I thought they sold brands like RonCo and As Seen on TV. For those of you who can go cable, spend the $40 a month and get 4 MegaBits a second. (I got the OS 9.1 Update in 4.5 Minutes) If Cable is not an option then at least pay for dial-up. Nothing in the computer world that was free amounted to too much of anything (iTunes seems to be a pleasant exception to this idea, I'm sure there are more exceptions.) But if you wonder why 1/3 of your screen is advertising and you can only get 26,400 connections, maybe you should look into a bonafide provider. my 2 cents....

    Cable sucks

I actually get 56k speeds even with the banners. Typical downloads and stuff--around 4.5k/sec
