ATI vs. NVIDIA poll

updated 12:10 pm EST, Tue February 20, 2001

Our poll last week asked, "How many hours per week do you spend playing games?" Over 38% of respondents said that they spend 1-5 hours per week, 26.58% spend 6-10 hours per week, 15.51% spend 10-20 hours per week, 11.71% spend 20+ hours per week and 7.91% spend less than an hour per week playing games. Our poll this week asks, "If you were buying a Power Mac G4 today, would you choose an ATI Radeon or NVIDIA GeForce2 MX?" Please vote in the left sidebar of any page.

I would choose the NVidia card. Partly out of respect for #dfx products that now belong to them as well as some of 3Dfx's engineers. ATI was always lax in improving its drivers for MAC and having bugs in new products that were not quickly resolved.
Also, I believe they make the better product.

    No AppleStore, no choice!

Only in countries with an Apple Store is it possible to get these BTO options.

Never the less I thing NVidia is a good choice, but it should have been their fastest card in stead of this one.

    Radeon is the one.

I would go for the Radeon. ATI still has much more background with Apple and thus provides better drivers at the moment. This might change in the future.
Besides the 3D acceleration (where both cards are pretty much the same) 2D as well as Quicktime acceleration is much better handled on the Radeon. Remember although the Radeon is not faster in 3D than a Geforce MX, it is the highend product of ATI, with better quality parts, thus better image quality.

    3D acceleration isn't everything!

    Greetings, Andreas.
