Apple reportedly prepping iTunes 1.1

updated 08:00 am EST, Fri February 16, 2001

Apple is reportedly working with Toast creator roxio to add support for other CD-RW drives to iTunes, according to Macworld UK. The development comes as a surprise given Apple's purchase of Radialogic's CD Master late last year, which already supports numerous third party drives. iTunes 1.1, as it is being billed, is expected to be released within two months, as per Apple CEO Steve Jobs' promise that third-party CD-RW support would arrive within 90 days of Macworld Expo.

    How 'bout an Equalizer

I can't use a player without one. I sure would love to burn CD's without Toast tho.

    Steve's "Don't Applaud

It can be interpreted that Steve Job's comment: "You shouldn't applaud, this is the way it should normally work" (or other words to that effect) is a way of expressing that Toast's "burn" functionality ought to be at the Finder level (as demoed), in the same way Disk Copy 6 can mount a r/w disk image on your desktop. The current Toast extension which lets the user use a writer as a reader effectively only gives you "half a slice" of Toast. SJ is looking for the whole slice for the "whole widget."

    Slice of Heaven

Let me just say that I've got a new G4 with the built-in CD-R drive and Apple did a bang-up job with it. I've been ripping CDs left and right in iTunes, even in the background while I'm surfing and doing other things. No errors yet, and I've ripped about 50-60 CDs so far. The Disc Burner utility is flawless too. Drag and drop files, burn and eject. Apple hit a home run with this. Just wait until it works with third party burners...

    Waiting patiently

I have a Yamaha drive that isn't supported by Toast 3.5.7. I've been told I have to buy Toast 4.1 or wait till Toast Titanium comes out this summer.

    This is good news.

    Buy Toast 4.1 now.

If you buy Toast 4.1 now, you will get Toast 5 for free. That's just what I've been told.

    Hope iTunes 1.1 is better

I sure Apple and UMAX visit each other and find out why the UMAX scanners ruined my iTunes experience. ITs been back to SoundApp for me...

    umax scanners are slow

get an epson or a microtek. I think that toast is more of a really freakin awesome utility, rather than just an burner app. and I prefer to write with toast since it converts mp3's on the fly to aiff audio cd's.
