    Getting *alot* better

I am posting this in Moz 0.8 now and the browser is getting alot better. I'm sure there are still bugs (that's why it's a 0.8), but I haven't come across any... yet. This is way, way better than NN6.01.

Seems way faster than previous releases. Startup still a bit slow, but feels faster as well. New windows and menu performance is alot better; still not instantaneous, but alot better.

Give it a shot, but remember to delete any previous version of mozilla, registry, etc. before you install.

What is the status of Fizilla, that carbon port of Mozilla, what milestone is that at - and is it any good?

It works 500X better 4 me

Here's some advice before you try this.

    1. Toss the Mozilla folder in the documents folder
    2. Throw out all versions of Netscape 6 (and 6.1), as they suck anyway and may conflict with Mozilla.
    3. Go to your preference folder and delete the Mozilla Preferences and Mozilla Registry file
    4. Make sure you've trashed any previous Mozilla applications

THEN install Mozilla .8 - it's *SO* much better. I'm using it as my main browser now.

    Things that work now--

Plugins -- Just watched flash animations at icebox.com, and trailers at quicktime.com (copied those plugins from netscape 4) - haven't tried java as yet. After you install Mozilla, make a copy of all those plugins and put 'em in there.

Scroll mice -- It's in there!

Secure pages -- work fine, no problem

Fun thingto try-- the built-in IRC client (from the Tasks menu)

Still takes a while to load up, but once it does, it's working pretty well. NOTE-- Netscape 6 is a repackaging of version .6 of Mozilla. This is .8 and has many, many bugs fixed.

Running on: PowerBook 63 Bronze keyboard with OS 9.1 and 196MB of memory.
    Good luck.

    Re: Fizilla

Fizilla isn't a "carbon" port. Fizilla only work under X as the front end is carbon but the back is a unix port.

    I'm impressed

It's actually fast once loaded, smooth scrolling and fast loads even on long pages (like Slashdot stories).

I might actually start using it now!

    Mozilla v.08

Mozilla is my browser of choice. I have been watching it develop for about a year now. In the last two months it has become very stable and reliable. Yes, there are areas that need attention but remember that this is still under heavy development.

Load times may be slow but browsing is very fast. Over the last couple months load times have greatly improved. What took 30 sec now is less then 5. Also if you have been watching you will sence speed improvements all over.

Both IE 5 and Netscape 4.7 have annoying problems but at least with Mozilla I know that next month there will be an improved version. This browser is shaping up to be one of the best. When Mozilla reaches v1.0 it will be a very nice browser indeed.

    OmniWeb won my heart but.

I've been using the nightly builds of Mozilla for last 6 weeks, minus mail, and except for bookmark issues, was almost my main browser.

With OS X and having used the recent build of OmniWeb, well, Cocoa and OS X is where my heart is. Moz is 2nd.

I've come to rely however on the ease of use of IE5 for bookmarks, holders, etc. And being able to copy a bookmark url w/o opening a dialogue - why do we need that?

    Appearance Savvy?

Most of my complaints about this browser in the past have stemmed from the fact that it has never been "appearance savvy" at all. I'll have to give this version a shot since they seem to be addressing that issue.
