I was busting up laughing at this one... this reminds me of the hilarious statements made by Tarik Aziz, the Iraqi Minister of Information in the last days of the Saddam regime, along the lines of, "our soldiers will walk on the skulls of our defeated enemies" or something... Obviously, these statements were made by engineers in the OS division of MS, and not the MBU, as they are completely ignorant of the dynamics of computer use among Mac users. Obviously, no self-respecting Mac user is going to wipe OS X from their shiny new Mac and install Windows...

true, he has said critical things in the past, but overwhelmingly, those things had the feel of the faithful members of a religion questioning the current leadership's direction, rather than an objective viewpoint.

I'll give up my OS X when they pry my dead, cold fingers from around it.

...for all the poor Windows souls out there waiting for so many years for an upgrade on their OS. I would really feel even more sorry about them if after all this time they get something so much inferior to current Mac OS X. I wouldn't like to compare Leopard as we don't know much about it yet and anyway, I never compare unreleased stuff... Interesting times ahead, though I don't feel optimistic with MS after all these delays... I think Apple has hit the sweet spot, by moving the goalposts every 18 months with new releases, making them (MS) lost track what they were trying to copy in the first place...

Talk about contortion in order to defend! Vista is just that-a warmed over OSX. These are the things I don't like about it:

Not functional on all Wintel hardware-upgrade very necessary for some.

Tiered pricing: Super Vista, Pro Vista, Schlub Vista, s****** Vista-who needs this! They sure didn't imitate OSX in this regard. X is the same for the consumer as it is for the pro-great karma.

Buggy as all get out. Understatement, but had to be said. Some report 6 hour install times.

Virus/malware/spyware prone-already! This is the "holy c***" of the whole equation. Why is this so! Simple-MS greed heads want to be able to control what you do on Vista and charge for any and everything. There's your security hole(s).

Apple's complete widget model, boasting superior hardware married to a pretty good/secure OS should garner it more support than it does. I genuinely doubt that anyone outside a MS software engineer is going to find that OSX users will flock to vista. Har-dee-Har-Harr! I've used it-and basically what you've got here is a dumbed down OSX 10.1 Keep it sez I and settle in the greener pastures of 10.5

What a crock! My 11 year old sister figured out how to use an iPod faster than I did.....not even a minute. The iPod is arguably one of the simplest AND advanced consumer device right now. Its just propaganda for all the Creative Zen and other wanna-be lovers to feel like Apple is c***.

But hey, they could be right. After all, look at how many Apple iPod users dropped their iPods like rocks when MS and its associated manufacturers offered their alternatives. Even after banning iPods on the MS campus.

Five years on from win XP, vista might actually allow windows to catch up to OSX, but by the time it comes out, Apple will have released the next interation of their OS. Once again windows will be behind, and if they take as long to release the next version of windows as it has take for vista to be released, you will have to wait until 2011 for their next catch up. What a complete joke.

The truth be known, Paul has been using OS X now for so long that he is just now beginning to see how bad Windows really is, thus his harsh comments about Vista. Mac OS X has raised his standards.

the article, since I wanted to see an example of Paul Thurrott being critical of MS. He does know much more about Windows and Microsoft than I do (or care to for that matter). But he is "a bit" delusional. He says in the conclusion, "It some ways, Windows Vista actually will exceed Mac OS X and Linux, but not to the depth we were promised." No doubt in some non-positive ways, Vista will exceed Mac OS X (like in the number of security holes). But how can he make this statement after writing a fairly long article slamming Vista. And the tense ("will") is important here. How can something that has a good chance of never being released (at least released as intended) exceed anything... It won't even exceed Windows XP if it can't get out the door.
