MS enthusiast on Vista

A Windows enthusiast and author of over a dozen books about Microsoft's operating system has described in great detail where he believes Windows Vista fails. "Since the euphoria of PDC 2003, Microsoft's handling of Windows Vista has been abysmal," wrote Paul Thurrott. "The entire project was literally restarted from scratch after it became obvious that the initial code base was a teetering, technological house of cards." Thurrott has spent over 10 years investigating Microsoft and its products, and says that the company is collapsing under its own weight. "We do not and should not expect to be promised the world, only to be given a warmed over copy of Mac OS X Tiger in return. Windows Vista is a disappointment. There is no way to sugarcoat that very real truth." Thurrott points to Vista's User Account Protection, Glass Windows, and Media Center as the primary features where Vista "just completely blows it." Several Microsoft engineers recently suggested that Vista will be superior to Mac OS X, and that current Mac users will abandon Apple's OS in favor of Microsoft's solution.

That is Paul Thurott, and whenever he writes an article about Apple, Mac zealots jump on him as a biased apologist for Microsoft, even though he buys Macs with his own money. I don't think much of him either, but I'm curious whether the same Macanistas are going to keep writing posts about how "he doesn't know what he's talking about" the next time he writes an Apple opinion.

I read this article already. Pretty bizarre - he likes to comment on how Vista will still be superior to Mac OS even in its 'weakened' form. Well I say he hasn't even seen Leopard yet! Just you wait sonny.

I really wish I wouldn't read stuff like this when I'm eating.

Thurrott doesn't know what he's talking about.

At least about the mac. I have no idea about his views or experiience with Vista, but as he's been a microsoft apologist for years, either he must think vista's really bad, or vista acts more like a mac, and thus from his perspective, it's bad.

Either way, I don't particularly care what he thinks.

This quote illustrates the type of dillusion that's rife in the Windows world.

"We do not and should not expect to be promised the world, only to be given a warmed over copy of Mac OS X Tiger in return."

It should read, "We do not and should not expect to be promised something as good as Mac OS X Tiger, only to be given a warmed over copy of Windows NT in return."

Thurrott has been critical of Microsoft many times in the past. I don't think I've ever read something quite this dour from him, though.

I wonder

I wonder if those MS engineers (an oxymoron in itself) who made the statement at the end of the article have been investigated for possessing large quantities of drugs. Let's face it, not even a used car salesman could make such an absurd statement with a straight face.

we will convert to vista, even Apple suggest we should do it, since they switched to intel. Smart Mac-users knew this was coming. As a precaution I formatted my OS X disks as FAT 32 to convert as quickly as possible when Vista arrives. IF IT ARRIVES THAT IS. :-)

As if we needed any more proof as to how delusional the folks at Microsoft are...
