QuickTime 5 Preview 3 available (finally!)

updated 04:40 am EST, Thu February 15, 2001

As anticipated yesterday, Apple has finally posted QuickTime 5 Preview 3, which addresses the expired preview problems readers noted here yesterday. This version, with 5.0b11 components, is an update from the "QT 5 Public Preview 3" version seeded to developers last week. Readers can provide feedback about bugs and suggestions about new features to Apple directly on the QuickTime Website. [noted yesterday evening; updated]

    Almost working again

    After having two computers COMPLETELY s*** themselves for a day I have installed the new version (downloading it from a mac that actually worked) and life is back to normal.

    I find it quite scary that such a small thing can mean the difference between freezing on startup and having everything fine.

    Mind you, when I tried to play the new sample movie, quicktime froze - ah well, at least I can do other things now.

    Oh, and all you people who wrote saying we shouldn't have used the software in the first place, please piss off and find something better to do.

    No Channels

    Installed the new version without problem, but when I click on "TV" there are no channels to choose from. How do you restore these?

    b11

    I downloaded QT yesterday from Apples developers page and I got QT5 b9. Today I downloaded from Apples QT-page and I got QT5 b11 and it was quite a difference - no freezing with MacOS 9.1.

    Better than 5.0b9!

    I'm working relying on DV codec. So I can tell the 5.0b11 is even nicer than 5.0b9. 5.0b9 was not so great as previous preview 2. But, 5.0b11 is fantastic. In terms of DV codec quality;

    4.1.2=worst (really sucks)
    5.0 preview 1=best, but some incompatiblity
    5.0 preview 2=best, incompatiblity addressed.
    5.0 preview 3=best + slick

    Apple's DV codec is the best among all soft DV codecs now.

    Quicktime Player try to feed up their Ads when it's launched. Hey, Apple, the same thing will happen in releasing version? Or Windows version? Nagging message is more than enough to freak out Windows users. Everybody says the same. Nisus Writer is maybe better than MS Word. But they tried to give away to grab the last piece of the market. Look at the market share of Quicktime format at this point. It's such a shame to be defeated with such a superior product by such a c***.

    QT Newsletter and QT 5

    Apple should have indicated that the preview would expire on Feb.14. They did not so it was a mess for thousands users all around the world. In this case, what's the use of a newsletter if they forget to put VERY IMPORTANT infos

    Sight !

    When I think of all those panicked Mac users who falsely pretended to be a developper yesterday morning just to have Qt5 b9... So sad !

    Hadn't it occured to anyone that Apple would publish a new preview version now that the old one had expired ??? It seemed pretty obvious to me...

    Now, of course, Apple should have published the new version on QT5 on the 13th of February... I suppose the programmers were all to busy buying flowers for their significant other ! ;-)
