Apple was a sponsor of a day-long seminar in India, which "emphasized clearing misconceptions in popular perception about computer education....the seminar stressed on participating educationists and IT professionals, the need for portraying computers as a tool for learning rather than a mere added qualification to their bio-profiles."

Outdated courses

Would you all believe if I said that people here in India use "Microsoft Windows, Word, etc" in their resumes as a qualification. These people are living under a cloud.

cheers

mac use in India

Lets face it Macs are never gonna have a big impact in India because the average computer user just cant afford them. Stripped down PC's which are made by lots of local companies are just so much cheaper, and dare I say it, there is plenty of cheap (ie bootlegged) software which just isnt available for mac (I know i've tried to get it).

I just wonder why when apple so often seems to have inventory surplasses that they are willing to off-write, why dont they ship them out cheap to India or some other developing country and try and open up a whole new market rather than just cannibalising their own hardware sales in the US?

Also why dont they make a big noise about the macs language capabilities, especially the Indian language kit, it must be worth some marketing expense, after all they went to all that trouble to develop it then just sit on it (typical Apple hey...)

DONT IGNORE MUMBAI!!

really, Macs have that ability for different language support. i remember seeing a Mac in a library in neighboring Bhutan a couple of years ago... it was being used in the local language.

Also i think iMacs, in particular would sell like vada-pav's if they're marketed well in india. Macs offer ease and simplicity to get online(for eg.) which is what the averager indian user wants.
Apple loses alot of the computer market share due to their awful marketing strategies (IMHO)

Wake up, Apple

Sponsoring seminars in India will do nothing for increasing Mac usage in India. I think Apple India needs to aim not at IT professionals but to the average Indian user. And also work towards bringing the price more in line with what it is in the rest of the world.
