Apple's Intel TV spot resembles music video

Apple copies music video?
Apple's recently released TV commercial--which the Lugz footwear commercial. Apple pulled the ad on October 12th, 2005, only to replace the clip before the month's end.
Finally, in November of 2005, Lugz footwear sent a cease-and-desist letter to both Apple and its advertising agency TBWAChiatDay over the television spot for the video iPod, and said it was prepared to fight for its rights.

Call the lawyers. Something vaguely resembles something else again.
What is this, some kind of child's "Find the subtle differences in these pictures" kind of thing?

Yeah its quite similar visually to the Postal Service video, but couldn't one say that about lots of tech "chip fab" commercials? Musically the similarities are a bit of a reach. Ben Gibbard and Postal Service do not resemble the Moby song featured in the Apple commercial (can't remember the name but its on the Play B sides). Plus is this even news worthy? Except I took the time to post on this story and I als bit on the link comparing the Eminem/iTunes ad to the And1 ad. c***!

How silly can you get

Seems like a lot of people see something -- say an Apple ad, but it extends to other things -- and they look at other things. For a commercial made in a chip fab, you will see a nearly monocrmatic environment, people in bunny suits, and lots of cool robots. So, once the first video was shot in an environment like this, is the second thing a rip-off? Somebody needs to get a clue. Sure, it's a rip-off! After all, that shoe company patented that shade of orange, so Apple's Eminem ad is a rip-off!!! Nuts.

...is the last shots. You can forgive the rest (barely) as coincidence but the shot that zooms out from the chip inside the computer certainly owes more then a little to the satellite shot at the end of the music video

mmhmm.

Yeah. You could also attribute that to 2001: A Space Odyssey. Face it, the Postal Service doesn't have a creative bone in their collective bodies, don't expect their videos to be any different. It's all been done before. :)

Similarity of music

I don't know what this says about techno, but I happen to know that the music from Apple's ad pre-existed the Postal Service's song by a comfortable margin of 5+ years. I know this because the Apple ad uses Moby's "God Moving Over the Face of the Water" (take that for what it's worth as it relates to Apple's self-identity). Moby's track was released as part of the 1997 "I Like To Score" album. Please, no flames for my being stupid enough to buy Moby, I've learned the error of my ways.

2001?

Actually I couldn't contribute it to 2001. 2001 doesn't have any shot that even vaguely resembles that one. If you're talking about a satellite floating in space sure but I'm specifically referring the the camera zooming away from the chip and through the internals of the computer. There may be another movie that has something similar but I assure you it's not 2001.

I hate advertising. The 4 years between the lugz ad and this one is an eternity as far as the public is concerned, nor is there "like use"– footwear vs. computers. Agencies often sue to impress their overcharged clients with their "creative integrity", for which they bill so, so much. And BTW, this ad isn't up to snuff for Apple. It seems utterly generic, which is part of the problem. I was afraid this might happen after migrating to intel.
