Elliot Zaret of MSNBC writes that AOL should harvest Apple, which it says would be a good fit for the media giant: "The biggest thing AOL needs that it doesn’t have is a media player to call its own. And Apple has perhaps the best one out there in QuickTime."

Come on! Do these guys do their homework before speaking out of their butts? Apple had made a major announcement when they came out with the iMac that they were making Earthlink their main ISP partner. Wouldn't Earthlink have a problem with Apple making such a deal with AOL?
Plus, this guy is actually suggesting that AOL/TW buy Apple. You want to see people dump that stock out of belief that it would be worthless (he believes people would snatch it up), but history has proven that anyone that doesn't understand Apple's vision will drive it into the ground. And AOL has proven that they don't get much beyond huge marketing expendetures (CD coasters anyone?) - just look at how they hobbled Netscape at the knees and destroyed any hopes of them making a comeback.

If there is anyone than can potentially acquire Apple is Sony. That marriage makes better sense that AOL/TW. Sony has high standards that only Jobs would admire.

A better idea (for Apple and AOL) is for AOL to license Quicktime for a AOL branded media player.

If AOL buys Apple, then Apple has lost a customer. AOL will run Apple into the ground just like it did with Netscape. Netscape is undead, an animated corpse, which is what Apple would be if it ever sold.
