Mac OS X build 4K29 vs. 4K33

Mac OS X build 4K33 has been released to select developers. Wincent Colaiuta has posted an article that details the differences between 4K29 and 4K33. "There are no visual differences between 4K33 and 4K29. The spinning cd still pops up frequently in Explorer - which we suspect is a side-effect of a quick Carbon port. Music Player app is still nowhere to be found. Apple System Profiler now works. In previous builds it would quit on launch giving an error."

Define "select"

Does this mean select as in ADC Select members, or the same "select" group that has been getting regular seeds (e.f. 4F8, 4K17, 4K29, etc) since Public Beta?

I'll be sticking with Audion using a Music Player face. iTunes is great but doesn't look cool - and is not customizable at all.

No, not ADC Select

No, this is not ADC Select members. I'm a Premier developer, and we haven't gotten anything since Public Beta. The group of people who get these builds may be in one of Apple's developer programs, but they're not getting the builds from the developer programs...they're involved in more 'elite' seeding and/or feedback programs, like Apple Software Customer Seeding or Customer Quality Feedback.

Wrong

Select and Premiere subscribers get seeds. I'm in that. I get seends, but I sure as h*** don't get any of THESE. I don't know why - I've been getting alphas, betas, and fc's of everything from 7.0 and up. I'd love to know who's getting these OS X builds and HOW.

Wincent can kiss his/her developer status goodbye. This sort of NDA breaking is exactly what pisses Apple off, and rightly so.

DVD Player

i can atest that their WILL be a DVD Player app in 1.0. THe reason why its taking so long is because APple had to write the program completely from scratch. If you couldnt' tell allready, The DVD Player 2.* app for OS 9 was NOT writen by Apple. Look at the user interface for example.

Does Apple write any User interfaces for any of its apps like Windoze applicatiosn? No. The company paid some other company to port the code to OS 9, complete with the Windoze UI -- which sucks.

Now Apple did their own DVD Player app -- which is _really_(!!) cool! you'll see it on, or shortly after march 24th.

All I had to do to get post Public Beta seeds was to ask Apple. I have a project that is trying to be synced with the Mac OS X release and Apple just sent me 4K29 to help me out.

Deadline

Does anyon know what the absolute last possible deadline is for the Mac OS X Golden Master in order for the shipping product to be out March 24?

I expect that boxes and other printer materials are already mostly finalized, but the CDs themselves can not be pressed until GM and then they have to be placed in theboxes, etc.

Anyone know what kind of turnaround they can pull off?

About a month...

Apple needs about a month's lead time between the CD going GM and duplication. Meaning, they should be GM by the 24th or so of this month. This means that all the code should be written by now, and all that should be going on now is bug stomping.

This clearly isn't the case, as the versions coming out around MacWorld were undergoing radical under-the-hood changes (USB support changed dramatically, breaking much of printing - unplugging a USB cable from a Mac running the version showed at MacWorld would kernel panic the machine. USB support was going to be re-done again, meaning printing would need yet another revamp...).

I hate to say this, but expect quick bug-fix patches/updates to the version that ships on March 24. I'm personally going to hold off until the 1.1 version, which should ship at/near MacWorld New York...

The last developer seed is 4K46, not 33, so the post in general are kinda out of date to the current status of OSX.

You leakers should lay off. You are entrusted with critical intellectual property, and you should respect that. You need to evaluate what your willingness to violate your NDAs says about your personal integrity. Ask yourself why putting couple of rumors in front of a bunch of anonymous geeks is so important to you.

Developer Seed

I am a member of the Apple Developer Connection. I just got my February Mailout. With it was a letter saying that all paid members of the ADC are getting a copy of OSX for free. They said it was going to mail on 24 March. In addition, they are promising at least one Pre-GM seeding for ADC Select and Premiere members in an e-mail I received last night. I suppose I can't say anymore without breaching my NDA (mind you, I don't know anything more...)

In the feb mailout there was a bootable OS9.1 Disc - it had the DVD Player 2.3 and ColorSync 3.0.3 whish isn't in teh downloadable 9,1 Update, nor was it on teh 9.1 Update CD I got with my Pro Keyboard.

Is not the persons real name - it's a play on famous session drummer Vinnie Colauita. Someone who
runs wincent.org is probably a fan of his drumming from way back in the Frank Zappa days (VC got
his start in the Zappa organization). Sorry for the off-topic.
